I have been to most of the cities in the poll. Although I give massive props to Chicago and New York for inventing the skyscraper and all the classic architecture, and I love my present city Shanghai's skyline, The best Skyline I have ever seen both in person and in pictures is Hong Kong. Flat out stunning, I have been to Hong Kong 7 times and I am never not amazed by that skyline. I have been a skyscraper enthusiast since I was a child and I can remember I had a tear in my eye when I first laid eyes on the HK skyline. It was if everything I had read in books and dreamed of as a kid had been laid out before me. HK has great architecture, a great natural setting of a bay in the front and mountains in the back, as well as density and now with the Kowloon skyline booming a 2 sided dimension. Shanghai is great but it will take years to overtake HK's magnificence, if it ever does. HK is the Mecca of Skyscraper enthusiasts, you must make a pilgrimage at least once in a lifetime!

I voted Hong Kong although I would have voted Rio De Janeiro if all the cities in the world were an available option.

And western Europeans don't feel inferior because of the high of buildings somewhere else in the world 5000 Miles away. Western europeans feel inferior if their neighbour has a bigger house (and more expensive car, better job (or today because of the crisis: still a job ),if you don't look as good as me or a model on the city billboards), etc)

KL (my home city) pix is outdated, especially the second one... For pix #2, Lee Rubber Building is already massively renovated and reclad, whereas the HSBC Building has a new and taller companion under construction!

However, my vote goes for Hongkong... For its truly dense and beautiful skyline as well as "fragrant harbor", something that NYC lacks!

But there's no European identity, so it doesn't matter.

Come to think about it - you're right - everybody hates everybody in Europe.

Why is Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, and Shenzen included in this list? Their skylines looks average. There are more deserving cities which is definitely much better than these three.

Nothing beats historical highrises. There never will be any skyline that can reach the grandeur of NYC or Chicago. Never.

KL to me, has an ugly skyline despite the beautiful and quality individual buildings.

They don't blend with one another.
