Not to mention that the amount of detail in Ranakpur temple is far, far more than in this one. Ranakpur temple is a wonder of the world. You can't copy it so easily

amazing thread... every time I look at the pictures, I am full of awe. I like most styles of temple architecture. But my personal fav. is Rajashthani/Gujarati temple architechture.
Kudos to MM

^Beautiful, aren't they? The dominance of Gujarati styles just shows which part of the country is doing well economically Although, this style is quickly becoming pan-Indian. I do hope some of the other regional styles are revived though.

The one who are getting this constructed( I think some Kripalu Maharaj and his disciples) said that Prem Mandir is being built from Italian marble and costs whopping Rs. 1 billlion. Those pillars and unique arch-like structures between these pillars remind me of Dilwara Jain temple.

^Those "arches" are actually quite typical in Gujarati religious buildings.

India continues to set a precedent the world over of what architecture should be.

Aren't Indians bored of building temples in the same architecture for thousand years now?

To be honest, I think Indian architecture to be overly done. Simplicity and elegance is what it lacks.

Actually this is an ancient style which has been revived and become popular in the last decade. You'll find very few surviving old temples in this style of architecture.

But who says it's all the same? There are many other styles in this thread itself.

Sri rama Temple , Kottayam is soooo sweet. Looks like a collection of South Indian cottages.

It's not a "cottage". What you're seeing is the Gopuram and the Pradakshina Path:

The actual temple is inside, but photography is not allowed in there.

Here's a photo of an older temple to understand the structure better.

I think we've got enough temple in this style now. There should be some variation.

^Hardly With our population your're going to see a lot more in this style. This is just the beginning. Wait till we become a little richer - you'll see some pretty grandiose stuff.

But yeah I hope they revive the styles that were popular in the gangetic plains between the 16th and 18th centuries. The massive masonry structures in places like Mathura, Datia and numerous other places. Or even the Rajput styles, or the Maratha styles.
