Harappan cities did not have temples. Stone temples began in the 5th-6th century AD.

I saw in a documentary that Mohenjo-Daro was a special building with a pool for ritual ablutions?
Is this true?
I heard that someone from India has created a computer model of Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro and put it all on the Internet?
Marathaman, you know anything about this?

Yes, ritual bathing in stepped tanks is one tradition that goes back to Harappan times.

Yeah I've seen reconstructions of these cities. The problem is that most of the detailing is highly conjectural, since nothing much survives in the ruins. You can google around. You'll find something.

Marathaman, thank you!
All right, I'm talking about this building.

And please give a link to this reconstruction?

A fantastic thread! Thanks for collecting all these!

Has there ever been a really modern/ist Hindu temple? Or is this in various ways "prohibited"? I'm fascinated by the wealth of detail.

So most new temples are 'modernist'. Infact most are a hodge-podge of styles with no underlying philosophy ( like so much in modern India unfortunately ). But my focus in this thread are the traditional ones.

'modernist' temple:

Well it is an Temple of India, built in India and shipped to Canada for Indian Canadians, so I think it was an obvious fit for this thread. How was I to know there was a thread about Indian Temples built outside of India. Not really something I would search for.

Would be great to see more recent examples of newly built Indian temples!

Which ones are there?

Impressive, but frankly those look more like themepark buildings

I clearly prefer more traditional designs, using 'natural' materials and humane proportions.

Traditional style temples are U/C a bit everywhere in India but they are more or less the same, albeit some structural and deco modifications.
