Hôtel Lutetia, Paris

Completed in 1910 and built after designs by Louis-Charles Boileau and Henri Tauzin. A very dominating and impressive structure.

I love Art Nouveau so much. Why can't this style come back? Contemporary architecture is so ugly.

60s-80s buildings are being demolished on a regular basis, and new ones are built in their place. I think it speaks volumes how much the contemporary architecture is valued. It's just not as beautiful as it was in the past. While you normally don't see the art deco or art nouveau houses being demolished.

They demolished not only Art Nouveau buildings in Germany until the seventies, they destroyed whole quarters. And if they didn't tear them down, they knocked of their stucco facades to "clean" the facades. And this started not 30 years after those houses were built, it started already in the twenties of the last century.

That's the result.

Well, that's a shame. Was it in East Germany? I would understand commies destroying Art Nouveau, seeing it as evidence of the lavish capitalist lifestyles.
