As far as I know, NO..

There were plans to have divisions and decentralization from years back, but it has opposition, mainly by the employees.

Bus fares hike from Monday

The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to increase minimum fares for ordinary bus services in the State from Rs.4 to Rs.5. This will be along with an increase in distance that can be travelled for the fare from 2.5 km to 5 km.

Similarly, the minimum fare for fast passenger services will be hiked from Rs.5 to Rs. 7 with doubling of the distance that could be travelled.

There will be no increase in the rate per km or the minimum fare for students. However, a marginal increase in fares will result from rounding of the fares to multiples of 50 paise and the clubbing of two fare stages for calculating the student fares and adjustment for increase in minimum wages for regular fares.

The new rates will come into effect from August 8 (Sunday midnight).

Announcing the revised fares after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said there would be no increase in fares for super fast, express, and other services. The minimum fare of 50 paise for students for travelling up to 2.5 km would remain the same.

As the Reserve Bank of India had discontinued the use of coins with denominations of less than 50 paise, two fare stages of 2.5 km each would be clubbed to calculate the next level of fares for students in multiples of 50 paise.

Thus, journey for distances between 2.5 km to 7.5 km would cost Re.1 while that between 7.5 km to 12.5 km would cost Rs.1.50.

The Chief Minister said that student fares were left practically unchanged because the government did not want a clash with student organisations. “All that is happening in this State is not fair. However, even students' unions affiliated to the ruling front are not willing to concede a hike in concession rates,” Mr. Chandy said when a journalist asked whether it was fair to leave the low student fares untouched.

Transport Minister V.S. Sivakumar told the media that the government had considered the report of the Justice Ramachandran Nair committee, appointed by the previous government to submit recommendations on fare revision, while deciding to increase the fares. Its first report on revision of fares of group taxies and autorickshaws had been implemented by the Left Front government.

The committee had recommended the revision of minimum fares for students from 50 paise to Re. 1 and fixing of the rates at 25 per cent of the fares for the public. However, the government decided against it, as that could work out to be high compared to the existing rates. Besides, it had decided to extend the student concessions to limited stop ordinary bus services.

He noted that the present rate per km for ordinary services was 55 paise. So, the charge for the fourth fare stage (10 km) would work out to be Rs.7.75. As coins of 50 paise had been discontinued, that would be rounded of to Rs.8. When travelling 100 km at the revised rates, the overall increase in fare for a passenger would be of only Rs.2.

He recalled that the government had held discussions with bus owners and students' organisations regarding fare revision.

15X65 = 975 = Rs.10 but it is Rs.11

And some city buses charges Rs.6/- for the 5 km stage instead of Rs.5 !
Bus day !!! Car journey is cheaper if you are more than 2 in number.

Yes more correction is needed. Why only 8 is corrected to 7? Is that the bus fare from Kottayam to Puthuppally? 9 should be reduced to 8, 11 should be 10 and 12 should be 11. Remaining is correct 65 paise/km. Which idiot did this calculation?

If this project is riding on KELTRON expertise we can expect a good show.
The KELTRON has given this GPS to PMPML , PUNE two years back.
There was a lot of followup and support done by KELTRON. however as per NEWSPAPER reports the response from the Pune bus transporter side was bad, owing to its failure.

Now atleast the KELTRON employees dont have to speak HINDI to correct any issues. I think they must use a pilot in ANATHAPURI fast and show to public that they can do it in TVM first.

KELTRON is good and KSRTC is their neighbor is Trivandrum. So it may workout
this time.

So the story is little different.

http://www.mathrubhumi.com/kozhikode...;്*.html

It is Rs.5 rupee for first 5 kms on every ticket. All kms beyond 5 is charged @55 piase. It is an advantage for long journey passengers. But the majority passengers will be travelling less than 20 kms , they have to pay up to 3 rs extra on a ticket.

Why the opposition is not taking up this matter? Both LDF and UDF are busy playing Kasera Kali. Non of them stand for the common man.

Hi Sali,
What you said here is not true. The issues regarding PMPML which came in newspapers are mostly regarding the rude behavior, bad service and less quality of the buses and staffs. The issues from Keltron are still there as they are on the modification of their existing software. I think that the maintenance of the existing buse units are not doing for the time being. And also its the third year they are running the project and the AMC period is 5 years after the installation fyi.

Next thing is that after increasing the hike private players came up with huge discounts (normally we see this in silk showrooms and electronic bazar). Kondody motors said that they will be plying the buses in old charges. So people who use ksrtc now will prefer Kondody motors in KK Road and kottayam -kozhencherry route. LIke this Venad travels, pta, champakara motors, saranya etc are giving season ticket facility to travellers. This will reduce the no of passengers in KSRTC.

That is reduced to 7 now. But 7 to 9 and 8.50 to 11 still continues. Diesel price increased just 3 rupees and bus fare increased by 3. This is like they are spending one litre diesel for each passenger.
