New York City: 7 WTC rising from the ashes !!

I went to the WTC Construction site yesterday, it was a cold sunny day in New York City......saturday march 13, 2004.

I was so happy to see the steel beams rising from 7 WTC.

All photos by me, Carlos

view from World Financial center

close - up, looking up the massive concrete ground level base

stairway over west street

still visible damage to the soon to be demolished....black tower

it is amazing, how beautiful the winter garden looks...it's like nothing ever happened there....

Is a new WTC about to be built?

Do you have any model or computer made picture of it?

Well part of the reason why the towers collapsed was because the steel frames melted and the building coud not support itself, so why is it sad that they take these precautions?

Anyways, I love the big one, not so sure about it's support acts though. They kinda look outta proportion compared to the girth and height of the big one.

Thanks for showing us the pics Carlos.

I think a steel reinforced concrete core with a steel lattice framework is the most efficient and best combined use of materials in most cases. 7 WTC is sure to be a splendid addition to Lower Manhattan.

Also, I don't believe 7 WTC is the first Concrete Core Tower in Manhattan. I remember seeing an apartment building (425 Fifth Avenue) constructed not too long ago that seems to have a concrete core and definately had a concrete frame, unless it is entirely supported by those Concrete Columns. However, it could be the first Office Tower to have a Concrete Core in NYC. Correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Here is a construction Photo of it taken on my birthday (the photo is not mine, but I'll host it), in 2002:

i believe the concrete wall on the bottom portion of the building is the protect the future con ed substation, which will eventually feed power to western lower manhattan. and the last thing you want is the terrorists blowing something up in front of the building and cut off power to the wtc and create havoc.

i think the concrete's only going to go up to the floors where the substation are and the rest will be steel.

oh JPSLtd, for your information, that building's the Envoy, which is a residential tower (only the first 5 floors or something like that is offices)

Hmmm, that's weird - here, even buildings with structural steel frames (and they are very few and far between) still have concrete cores.

NYC office buildings all have steel frames and cores. This is the first with a concrete core.

However, most or all of its residential towers are concrete framed and cored (is that a word?).

Hi I'm from Perth Western Australia, thought I was the only nut-case into skyscrapers until I found this site.

Anyway, great to see WTC beginning to take shape.

We were all devastated here in Australia when 9/11 happened, hope the wounds are slowly beginning to heal and that the WTC landmark brings new hope and inspiration to New Yorkers

With you in Spirit from Land of OZ Downunder

Great pictures!
Here in Spain is really common the concrete core for ALL high-rises, I suppose is the cheapest and fastest way to build a building.
Normally steel structures are not built because of really stupid and restricted laws about fire security. But right now the composite structures are becoming more and more usual (concrete+steel)

7 World Trade -- Thanks for clarifying the concrete issue. I wasn't sure if there were more residential towers in NYC like that.

Anyways, the photo I posted shall be a link from now on since the focus here should be on 7 WTC.

I really dont think it matters if it has a concrete base. I think it shows real strength to rebuild this. Theyre effectively saying 'Terrorists wont stop us, well live our lives as normal' Theyre rising from the ashes as if theyre never to be beaten.

Good on you America!!

I just noticed this by looking at the pic of the Freedom tower with the Statue of Liberty, but is the Freedom tower suppose to resemble the Statue of Liberty in skyscraper form? If you look at them together, the spire seems like the torch, and the body of the skyscraper widens as it descends. I just sort of looks like it to me..if so, I appreciate this building SO much more...anyone know?
