I'm so proud that the rebuilding continues at the WTC. Thanks for the pics.

Now if we could just get taller replicas of the old WTC 1 and 2 everything would be perfect. I think most here would agree.

I disagree, I am actually a fan of the Freedom Tower. Not that I didnt like the twin WTC towers. It's something that is going to restore New york's skyline and even make it better. The freedom tower will do just that. The design may not be the best, but we are talking about a 1,776ft tower. That is huge!!! Ill bet any money once this monster is built it will be a spectacle to see.

Well, the Empire State building was nearly empty for years after it was finished.

True, but I think we can all agree that the new World Trade Center is under slightly different circumstances.

still, the nyc downtown skyline will never be the same without twin towers dominating it (one building doesn't really seem to do justice for what we lost).

the freedom tower is never gonna be a spectacle imo with the cheap lattice and lame-o windmills inside. the least they can do is make those two building elements go...

I agree. Two SOLID strong looking buildings really represent New York City better than an enviromentally friendly, 70 story building with more than a third of the building dead an uninhabitable. I wish there was something we could do to get these back:

Now the current WTC 7 design looks good because I don't think many people outside of New York knew about it. It didn't have much of an impact obviously as the 1 and 2. The new WTC 7 doesn't stray away from the boxiness the old one had and I think the new one looks better than the old 7.

I think the new WTC will usher in a new direction of architecture for New York. So that NY can get away from the old traditional boxy look, like its starting to already. Theres going to be alot of buildings in New Yorks future, why keep pondering the loss when you can look to bigger and brighter things. Just my opinion

Very true, but just look to the Empire State Building or the Chrysler building.

Since the capture and death of John Gotti, the mafia has tremendously lost everything, I heard.

yeah, the mafia's day of high crime is gone (those dang crazy italians...). thank God.

SJM, i agree that the esb and chrysler looks good without a twin, but hey, the wtc site is meant to hold twin towers. and if there's only 1 tall building, the site won't look right. and new yorkers know that too. which is why during the beyer blinder belle building competitions, the only plan featuring twin towers was the least unpopular one, and in the 2nd round of designs, foster & partners, the only one to feature clean cut twin towers, was really high in popularity compared to the other plans. if you expect the new wtc to be popular, at least build something with twins.

Yeah I agree whole heartedly, we lost two massive twin towers and we should rebuild two. Maybe if they made the FT 2000ft high it would be like putting one on top of the other.

Long overdue update for this thread...

I decided to go down to the WTC site during one of my breaks today on 9/13, here are some pictures:

Lookin' lovely:

Facade closeup:

Sharp angle:

I thought it would be slimmer, it's pretty bulky:

Steel rising at 7 World Trade:

Looks pretty cool with the fence:

Reflected in the Millenium Hilton:

Standing Tall:

Facade view:

From the WFC:

LMDC President Kevin Rampe said a couple of days ago on TV that the building should be completed by late this year or early/mid next year.

yes but it is a fairly decent box and the facade is pleasing enough.
it's just good to see constuction there.

Around 7 or so floors remain left before it's topped out.
