TORONTO | ĪCE Condominiums at York Centre | 234m | 67 fl | 202m | 57 fl | Com

Basically this is right across the street from the Maple Leaf Square condos which are under construction. However, these designs seem to be more striking architecturally. The development includes two, unique condo towers at the southern end of the site and a more sleek, conservative modernistic office tower roughly taking up the northern half. Apologies for the link.

For a closer look:

An excellent rendering by wyliepoon at Ut

Two sets of twin towers. Maybe too much? Nice density though -- 5 towers over 150 m.

The latest renders looking promising, but seem to be devoid of a podium like the development across the street from it, Maple Leaf Square:

Impressive ...
There are so many buildings in Toronto that are already being built with podiums. Good to mix it up a bit.

Those designs are dreamy... I can't wait till construction starts on this massive project.

The proliferation of podiums is due to the fact that it is a preferable design for an urban area. Podiums maintain the street wall and intensification that makes downtown cores so dynamic and exciting.

It is the complete curtain wall of buildings and retail that draws people to these areas. Condo towers with grounds or courtyards are for the suburbs! It is a waste of space and under-whelming. Why put a courtyard in when it could be wall to wall retail, restaurants, clubs, school, gyms, galleries, etc. Keep the courtyards in Mississauga or North York. Keep them out of downtown!

Podiums in this area are particularly desirable. Without one, the development tends to be dominated by the expressway rather than the other way around.

"Ice will be designed in a Scandanavian design theme with an iconic green roof canopy element which will wrap around the entire York Centre and provide perhaps the largest green roof ever developed in the City of Toronto".

So there will be a podium with a green roof canopy, which you see in the render.

was this a joke? cause it wasn't that funny...
Toronto is a beautiful city, but it is ridiculous to compare it to New York.
No offense, but it's like trying to compare a 10 year old to an adult....

Oh the Humanity! Destroying all of these vacant and parking lots for, for this lot of architectural non-mediocrity! They could attract even more people south of the tracks! How dare they!
