They had a JJB on top of New Street?

Did anyone know about it?

I certainly didn't.

you might remember it being an olympus sports store for a while before it closed? By then it was just a clearance store for JJB

Yup, there was on High Street also, it closed with Mothercare to move to Corporation Street as said above, Mothercare was then taken by Madhouse which closed down within like 3 weeks, then it was redeveloped into what is Currys/PC World now.

and to those of you that were worried about the new level of lighting on platform 1 dont cause it will get much brighter than that not sure if by lighting but by look of it from artists impressions there will be sky lights inbetween the escolators and stairs that go up to the concourse from platform level this shud solve the problem with the darkness

The whole area around the station is filled with 60's monstrosities. I my opinion they missed an opportunity not to demolish that tower on the station at Stephenson St.

If you look at the pictures above it seems a theme in 60's Birmingham to put a small tower on a pedestal. It doesn't look good.
