Wow! You really knocked it out, and fed my curiosity especially. We don't get to see much of this city, especially us non Sudanese or non MENA or peripheral folks. Thanks a bunch. I'm happy to see new developments are taking place in this Sudanese city also. This it the 3rd largest in Sudan, correct ?

sudan has dozens of medium size cities with their own character.
I think why khartoum overshadows all these other interesting cities is because its larger then the next ten largest cities in sudan combined. |

That is very true. I will say again, it's much better than I expected. I've always been interested with the Sudan, from the earlier Nubian Kushite states such as Kerma, Napata, Mereo, to the later Medieval Christian Nubian states such as Nobatia, Maukuria, Alodia, to the Islamic Sudan and the period of the Mahdi, and to the recent era. El Obeid is one of the battle areas where the Mahdi defeated the British-Egyptian forces, this is where my interest had grown about this city, but never until now I've seen many recent visuals of it. It's quite difficult for a non regional people to find quality images of this settlement.
