Århus photos (Updated with part 2)

The weather was pretty fine this morning so I though I better go and try out my new camera.
There's all kind of photos, some probably more interesting than others and also some things you've seen before. I started my tour in the southern part of the harbour (at the dark blue dot) and followed the light blue line to the north, ending at the dark blue dot in the top of the map:

Enough dots, let's get going.

Looking north towards the harbour from Marselisborg Marina:

Marselisborg Marina (urfortunately it's a little bit early to get any sailing boat photos):

Looking north towards the harbour (yack ) on the way back to the city:

Buildings on Strandvejen:

Close-up view of the soon to be completed KPMG Huset (next to Bruun's Galleri shoping center)

The top of "Vor Frue" church (just love my new 70-300 zoom lens):

The chuch itself with the city hall tower in the background:

The newly renovated "Clemensborg" on Clemens Torv. The old building was torn down except the facade whcih was used i the new building. Today it's a small shopping center:

View towars the Magasin store:

King Christian X in front of the cathedral:

Top of the cathedral (96 m.):

The cathedral tower:

The backside of the cathedral:

View towards Store Torv:

Love this next one, the top of Århus Theater :

Sign in front of a restaurent/small brwery:

Back close to the harbour, here's the buildings that face the northern part of it:

One of the huge Maersk container ships (Århus is the largest container port in Denmark):

Looking towards the city from a pier:

More harbourfront buildings:

Moving back into the city towards the university, looking back down "Nørrebrogade":

And finally Skt. Johannes Kirke behind the Municipality Hospital, I've never seen this building before, heh:

That's it I'll add all new Århus photos to this thread in the future.

Any news on how Bruuns Galleri has affected commerce and shopping in the old centre?

Excellent pics, been to Aarhus a few times and its lovely. Wish I could trade you shopping street with ours in Reykjavik, going numb basically because of suburbian landscraper competition.

Last thing I heard was around Christmas. The "old" shops in the pedetrian streets actually sold more than they used to. And Bruuns Galleri was also over budget. Another thing is that many people feared that the area around B.G. would get a lot more traffic but that hasn't really happend either. I think most people here are possitive about B.G. now

It was also announced the other day that the "banegårdpladsen" (the area from where the main pedestrian street ends to the rail station) probably will be closed for traffic within a year or 2. This will bring B.G. and the old shopping area "closer".

I bough a Canon EOS 300D There's a bit more about it in this thread

I've still only really used the "auto" functions on the cam, but the photos come out really nice and sharp. Here's a larger photo, notice how sharp it is. And the original one (almost 3 times larger) is just as sharp:dooby:

Aaahhhh ... finally, Mikael!

Glad you had a nice day so your could take a walk in your home town. Super fine layout, map (in English yet! ), captions and all.

You're right, your camera is fantastic! Catching the rooster weather vane on top of the church tower is amazing, as is the gargoyle on top of the theater. I can't say that I'm totally 100% happy with the Clemensborg renovation, but I surely prefer it to a glass & steel fassade!

Btw, Maersk Shipping--they're HUGE indeed! I've talked about that company with tic_tac. I see their containers in the Oakland harbor whenever I come by there, and occasionally I see one being hauled around on trucks on the freeways. I always think of you guys when I see them.

I think that it's perfectly safe to say by now that Århus is definetely the best-looking city in our region, capital cities excluded. And your camera is just perfect. I envy you. And that you don't have any snow on the streets, unlike some others.

I will be keeping an eye on this thread in the future. There can never be too little Scandinavian stuff here.

Very sharp and good images. Far sharper than I manage with my Olympus c220. And that map with the path and all, damn, maybe I'll have to upgrade the maps in my threads too

Århus looks very beautifull and..danish. Danish cities are much better looking that Norwegian ones, me thinks. And harbours, they are ugly everywere.

Thanx WH, you always have nice comments

I actually like Clemensborg but we can't all have the same taste. I was looking for some old photos but couldn't find any. And I really have no idea how it was before (was under renovation when I moved here). I'll keep looking though On the next photo (with Magasin) you can actually see one of the other facades of Clemensborg, this one is glass (the one to the left)

Yes Maersk is huge indeed, I also remember seeing a lot of their containers when I was in Miami. The owner is also by far the richest man in Denmark. I read that they just ordered 110 new ships to be delivered over the next 3 years

I don't know about that, I've only been to Göteborg and Malmö of the larger cities in the region outside Denmark and that's a looooooong time ago.

Since we have no change of competing with your contries naturewise we'll have to beat your architectually But seriously, lets not compare our cities by which is better looking, there are great cities in all our countries I'll hopefully soon have a new bunch of photos for you

Århus looks very beautifull and..danish. Danish cities are much better looking that Norwegian ones, me thinks. And harbours, they are ugly everywere..
Again, I find the Norweigen nature to be way over our league so it's of course a question of what people define as beauty

And true, most harbours looks like

Again thanx everyone, now I feel like getting more images for you soon

Yes, it was indeed a beaufiful day today, also here in CPH.
Sunshine and temeratures arround 18 degrees! I also went on a photo tour. Went to the south harbour and Ørestad. The pictures will be posted soon...

Anyway, back to you, mlm. A 70-300 mm lens!!! I envy you. Had one with my old analogue camera, and I'm really missing that with my current compact digital camera. For all I've heard, a EOS 300D should be a super camera, and your pictures only comfirmes this!

The big "castle" on Strandvejen is really one of my favorite buildings in Århus. I wouldn't mind living there!

And this picture is not only really great, it also shows one of my many different homes, in my Århus years.
I used to live in the noble white building, no. 4 (or 5) from the left.

Also, notice the background. Århus isn't exactly flat! At least not for a danish city

Keep'em coming, mlm

WOW Tournesol, what an awesome place to live I also have to get my ass out of this Gellerup dump soon, maybe I should see if I can get into that beautifull castle like building

About the lens, when used on a digital camera you have to multiply with 1.6 so it's actually the same as a 112-480 mm for a normal SLR camera A guy at a store told me it was roughly the same as 17x zoom on a normal camera, so I can get really close on most things

I'll be waiting for you new Cph pics

I´m impressed! Århus seems so homely and warm not to mention beautiful too. And it´s now officially added to my list of must-visit-places
You must´ve paid a big pile of money for that camera of yours but the quality of the pictures definetely shows!

Århus photos pt. 2

Today was (and still is) another nice spring day here in Århus so I though I would give you a few more photos.

Here's the map again, I added todays route in darker blue. I started walking to the southeast, then you can figure what way yourself

Here's the updated map:

First a "bonus" photo taking while I was waiting for the bus. This is not a part of the "tour". It's more to the west than you can see on the map. It's another shopping center with about 70 shops (located a few hundred meters from where I live):

Let's get going with the tour, first we have Prismet as most of you have probably seen before:

Walking towards Mølleparken along Århus Å:

Mølleparken:

Lion in front of the Department of Justice:

Top of the same building:

And the building itself:

The new artmuseum ARoS, it's will open on April 7th:

A statue in the pedestrian street:

McDonalds:

And specially for WH, more Clemensborg photos, first we have 3 exteriour photos:

Moving inside, appearently there's still some construction going on in there:

Moving outside again, here's a few of the café's next to "Åen"

Old houses at Klostergade:

The old firestation at Ny Munkegade (still in use):

A closer view of the tower:

Looking back down Ny/Gammel Munkegade:

Next 3 photos shows typical buildings of the northern part of the innner city:

Finally reacing the Botanical Garden and Den Gamle By (The old Town), a outdoor historical museum:

Old Windmill in the park surrounding the museum:

A funny Garbage frog

And finally one of my friends from the park

Over and out....
