A multi week showcase of the South Side begins today:
The city skyline from a walkway over some freight tracks in the South Side Slopes: ![]() ![]() ![]() Oakland through the cold air: ![]() ![]() Downtown from the Birmingham Bridge across the Monongahela: ![]() ![]() ![]() The empty roads of the Birmingham Bridge: ![]() The South Side: ![]() On Carson Street, the South Sides main road and full of restaurants/shops/bars/drunk college kids on the weekends: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This Burger King is special, it had to adhere to strict building codes and follow the street's architecture to get built here: ![]()

Too bad about that Burger King. When did it get built? Everything else is narrow 2-3 story buildings and the BK is a wide 1 story building with a parking lot. I guess it's at least built to the street wall.

I'm not sure, there is a history with it getting built there. Perhaps a native Pittsburgh forum member could answer your question.

This post will cover a small part of three area's (Homestead, Chatham Village, and the Hill District):
The Hill District Construction of a new Stop n Save grocery store in the Hill: ![]() Looking down to the Strip District and the Allegheny River: ![]() ![]() Across from the Hill is Troy Garden, Spring Hill is above it, both are city neighborhoods: ![]() You can see Washington's Landing here, it is the island in the river: ![]() Chatham Village Homes in this elusive co-op property. It is basically a village within the cities' borders (it is on the South Side up in the hills across from downtown) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Homestead A struggling community, Homestead is building lots of new housing: ![]() ![]() ![]() Established neighborhoods: ![]() The cities main st, 8th Ave: ![]()
