SZEGED | Public Transport

Welcome! This thread is dedicated to the public transport of Szeged. The main objective of the thread is to present you the new "tram project" of the city.

The project is made up of not just tram-ish elements, but of course, the main figures are trams. A new tramline will be made,by adding a few kms of new tracks to the existing network. Here's a map of the city and the tramlines:

Red - tramline 1
Green - future line 2
Pink - tramline 3
Yellow - trammline 3F
Blue - tramline 4

Other main aspet of the project are trolleys. A line will be extended, and a new one made, again,by extending the network.

Yellow - trolley line 5
Light blue - trolley line 7
Dark blue - to be extended trolley line 8
Red - trolley line 9
Green - futurte trolley line 10

Additional elements are reconstruction of tramlines 1,3,4 , and the tram and trolley depots and electrical facilities.

Tomorrow: project descriptions!

As I said, the main component of the project is tramline 2. It will branch out from line 1. Renders about the line:

The junction where line 2 will leave line 1

The new section

Renders about the old section of line 1:

The reconstruction of the square in front of the main train station is also in the project, where line 1 and 2 will terminate.

The project started earlier this year, with the reconstruction of Anna-well square, where all tramlines meet.

The square being torn up:

Almost finished:

And the finished junction:

And the project continued with the reconstruction of line 1,which started not long ago:

But not only line 1 will be reconstructed, but also sections of lines 3,3F and 4,which are the common sections of the 3 lines, and the rest of line 3. there are renders about these too:

Meanwhile, the trolley and tram depots are also closed for reconstruction.

The tram depot:

The trolley depot:

Extension of these is also necessary, because new vehicles will be bought for the new lines.

Now to trolleys...

Line 8(blue) will be extended. It currently terminates where it meets lines 5(yellow),7(light blue) and 9(red).It will be extended beyond this point,to the loop in the south.

Line 10(green) is currently a busline. It will be electrified.

The vehicles...

The new trolleys will probably be Mercedeses, though it is a speculation for now. But the supplier of trams have already been choosen,it will be the polish Pesa:

Why would it be? There are not nearly enough passangers(not even the traffic of Budapest airport justifies a tramline),besides, its not an internatinal airport, and we have no domestic flights.

Great shots! Keep them coming!

Perhaps you could take a photo of the trams parked in front of Szeged Plaza...

So, as I promised, I made a little trip along tramline 1. Here's the "result" :

I started at Nagyállomás (the main railway station in Szeged). Well, by now nothing happened here. :

The Boldogasszony sgt. - Szt Ferenc u. junction in front of Nagyállomás. A roundabout is gonna be built here:

Boldogasszony sgt. dug up. Under the visible surface there's already a plastic film laid down. Maybe to prevent the soil from drying (grass will be planted there):

The "Heroes' Gate":

The following section (Zrínyi u.) won't be rebuilt. It's a pity, both tram track and concrete are in a bad condition. So, construction continues after Anna kút (which has been modernized last autumn):

Kossuth - Rókusi junction (a bit better quality ):

The tram depot entrance:

Rókusi pu., a minor railway station, the other end of line 1:

And finally, here are your trams, Qtya Note the one in the middle. It's a CKD from Potsdam, but still unmodernized. The motors, seats, electronics etc. are all taken out.

The rusty one rocks!

Well, on Kossuth blvd. sure there will be, but on Boldogasszony I'm not completely sure.
