"An outline planning approval was granted in 2011. Detailed design work is being concluded with several major occupiers and work on site is planned to begin during 2013."

Take from the official website: http://s244306752.websitehome.co.uk/regal_tower.htm

Is work going on...? 2013 is nearly coming to an end? Any site pictures etc?

What you saw isn't what we're now getting.

Its due to be redesigned and scaled down.

As with everything in Birmingham developers tend to have a black hole of news so nobody really has any clue what's going on with anything anymore.

okay thanks for the update. Its a real shame really...

So much potential, but not much drive. For reasons like this I believe the UK's Second Skyline will be in the hands of either Manchester, Leeds, Portsmouth or the most likely Liverpool.

A real shame for Birmingham. At least the new Library looks amazing! Great piece of architecture.

It really does get to me how birmingham just can not build a skyscraper ....
just look at the list VTP, broadstreet tower, Arena central, Regal tower, post and mail, ohh and snow hill, started to build it and now the core has been demolished, just a shame

I wouldn't be so downbeat. Birmingham still has the densest city center in terms of mid to high rises in the UK outside London. It'll only take a couple to give it the edge.

This may have died a death but there are plenty of potential highrise sites within the city ready to be acted upon.

Also - This was 200m to begin with don't forget. Tallest approved tower outside London. The redesign, should there be one would more then likely still be over 100m tall.

Once Birmingham gets building substantially again it will only take a couple of 100m+ towers to give it a very very good European skyline.

Hopefully this will include the Regal Tower and a new re-design. Birmingham needs a new large tower! 100+ MINIMUM.

I'd be really dissapointed if they re-designed the development as a small residential complex or something like that -_-

No news is bad news. This one is probably dead or on ice?

Atm it's 'on hold' as it hasn't been confirmed to be cancelled but there has been no real news for a few years...

Birmingham has a few 100m+ buildings in the pipeline, and this building would really add to that and the 150m BT tower

It happens quite often that buildings aren't officially cancelled. Not good publicity.

Well it appears that the 201m tall tower has been scrapped in favour of 2 smaller towers on the site with heights of both 18 and 22 floors!

Can I ask, when are they going to start building that Regal Tower?

The plans for this tower have been cancelled due to the economic crisis.
