South western Railways and GOK are working towards it to make Baiyappanahalli as last stop for all TN/AP bound trains originating or terminating in Bangalore.

KH Muniyappa had a proposal to make Baiyappanahalli Station to International standards.
Keeping the view of Metro station as well.

All AP/North Indian - Kolakata bound trains will Halt at yesvantapur.

SBC can be used only for trains bound towards Mumbai and fiurther.
That's the reason DVS has proposed Dharwad-Chennai and Dharwad-Madurai to go via SBC.

Bedbugs start bugging train passengers

MANGALORE/CHENNAI: It is a pestering problem that Indian Railways is unable to put a lid on despite its best efforts. While sighting of cockroaches or rats in trains is accepted as normal, what regular business travellers who prefer AC coaches must contend with is bedbugs who are on the prowl in the darkness.

Ensconced in the linen and blankets given to passengers travelling on AC two and three-tier coaches, bedbugs become active once lights go off and passengers hit the sack. Cimicidae or bedbugs are small parasitic insects and refers to species that prefer to feed on human blood. Almost invisible to human eye, these bugs, once they have fed on human blood, bloat to the size slightly smaller than the sac of a mosquito in a similar state. The most commonly infested places are the mattress (98.2%).

Enduring these bedbugs on board AC coach A2 of 12686 Mangalore-Chennai Express on Wednesday last, Ramesh Chandran, regional head of a leading cosmetic company, was not bemused.

"I prefer to travel by AC coach as I can reach my destination fresh and get on with my work on arrival there," he said, adding that bedbugs gave him a harrowing time. "One cannot go to work in a fresh frame of mind having spent the night without sleep," he said. Similar was the complaint of H P Mulki and his wife Snehaprabha, who travelled from Chennai to Delhi in AC coach recently. "We had to endure cockroaches, rats and bedbugs and the whole journey was a nightmare," he said.

This is not a phenomenon restricted to Southern Railway alone. Even J L Shenoy, a retired engineer who travelled to Mumbai recently on Konkan Railway, endured these pests. "It is stressful to travel in these conditions," he said.

Acknowledging that early detection and treatment are critical to successful control of pests, V J Accamma, chief public relations officer of Southern Railway, told TOI that they have been getting lots of complaints. "I am from Kottayam and travel often to Chennai and know the problem firsthand," she said and urged the Railways to take action against departmental staff or contractor concerned for shoddy linen maintenance.

James Sebastian, PRO, Palghat division, said primary maintenance of each train is vested with respective railway stations. The case of bedbugs in the AC coaches of trains 12686/65 will be investigated and action will be taken, he added.

now that is dangling of carrot.. why cant the immediately convert kr puram into long distance terminal, where metro will be connected in phase two. instead they are buying time saying baiyappanahalli etc all ap/tn trains should be stopped at kr puram, at least trains that pass through kr puram should be terminated there..

A waiting room for seniors, persons with disabilities

Quote:
The Indian Railways has set up an exclusive waiting room, complete with a restroom and wash area, for senior citizens and persons with disabilities at the Bangalore City railway station's Platform No. 1.

According to a press release, this area would be maintained by a non-governmental organisation that runs battery-operated vehicles on the platforms for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

“The NGO would also ensure that senior citizens and persons with disabilities are picked up from the point of arrival and taken to this waiting area prior to boarding.

On the arrival of the train, the battery-operated vehicle would take them to their coach.

The facility is the first of its kind initiated by the Indian Railways,” the release said. The venture is supported by ELGI Equipments India Ltd., Coimbatore, as a part of its corporate social responsibility.

Thanking the company for its support, S. Mani, divisional railway manager, said similar facilities shall be provided at the second entry of the Bangalore City railway station as well as at the Yeshwanthpur station in the next financial year.

Hubli Division registers increase in freight loading

Quote:
Although the Hubli Division of South Western Railway lost a major source of revenue after the ban on export of iron ore and the suspension of iron ore mining, it has now registered an increase in the freight loading of other commodities, including other minerals and foodgrains.

Addressing presspersons at the Diesel Loco Shed in Hubli on Wednesday, Divisional Railway Manager of South Western Railway Praveen Kumar Mishra said the increase in freight loading was a result of the consistent efforts made by officials of the division to convince suppliers of the benefits of transporting their consignments by rail.

Mr. Mishra said the Hubli Division, which contributed 70 per cent of the freight revenue of South Western Railway, was affected by the ban on mining and export of iron ore. “We are hoping that the ban will be lifted soon. Even if only the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) is allowed to mine, it will give us good revenue,” he said.

To a query, Mr. Mishra said the division had increased freight loading of sugar, onion, alumina powder, dolomite, coal fines, charcoal, sponge iron, granite, coal dust and others.

He said the division had a performance efficiency index (PEI) of 34.32 per cent, which was one of the best in the Indian Railways. In terms of punctuality performance, the division had registered 100 per cent performance on 87 days and on the rest of the days in 2011-12 till date, it had been over 95 per cent, he said.

New building

Mr. Mishra said the new building of the Hubli Railway Station, which had been taken up at an estimated total cost of Rs. 29.05 crore, would be a landmark for the region.

“Till date, Rs. 7.99 crore has been spent on the new railway station building, which is being constructed in three phases. And we have set a target of making the new station building partially operational by March-end,” he said.

‘Track doubling crucial'

To a query, Mr. Mishra said the doubling of the track between Hubli and Dharwad was crucial to improve train services in the division. This had been stressed in the railway budget proposals, which included, among others, a direct train from Hubli to New Delhi via Gadag and Solapur.

On the allegations about the involvement of railway officials in the transportation of iron ore, Mr. Mishra clarified that the railway officials and staff had permitted transportation of iron ore by rail by following the rules strictly.

‘The increase is a result of consistent efforts by officials'

‘No misconduct in permitting iron ore transport'

YH-1, YH-2 & YD-1 are running with DEMU rake

Also the train proposed in Rly budget the 22817/18 is ready to take off-the inaugral special train 02817 is ready to run on 19th Feb from Howrah

Also another Karnataka train the Vivek Express from Satragachi to Mangalore is all set to take off with 02851 spl starting tomorrow at Satargachi

Verified recently on the DEMU rake, now YPR-HOSUR & YPR-DEVNAHALLi is running with DEMU Rake. This rake was earlier used for Dharmapuri-SBC-Chikballapur, used to be waiting at chikballapur from 10am to 5pm daily.

Now its been made full use. Also as mentioned in earlier post for Nelamangala Station of DNA news and also as promised by MoS K H Muniyappa during few weeks back at Vidhansoudha of opening of the Nelamangala line by March'2012, I feel this DEMU rake may be extended upto Nelamangala and made to run between Nelamangala - YPR- Hosur and Nelamangala - YPR - Devanhalli.

Because during July'2011, DRM of Bangalore division had proposed to run train services between Chikbanavar-YPR -Hosur & Chikbanavar-YPR-Devnahalli with existing timings of YH-1, YH-2 & YD-1 by extending from YPR to chikbanavar.

Looks like it may happen by March end as mentioned by DRM for waiting for safety certificate.

Checked the progress on the doubling of track betn the Yesvantpur to Yelahanka, gorund work has been progressing after Lottegolhalli station upto GKVK campus ( near Yelahanka bypass ). Already minor bridges construction is nearing completion and leveling of ground is in progress. Between Yesvantpur - Lottegolhalli & from Allalsandra to Yelahanaka work is not started.

For the Yelahanka to Channasandra, doubling of track work has been started.

Now both segments getting doubling is good for Bangalore, also Yesvantpur - Yelahanak line has been tested recently for the electrification which was pending since 2 years and with Nelamanagal line getting ready for opening by March'2012.
Now we can see good move for the commuter rail as RITES Hyderabad which was done MMTS has almost completed the draft and ready for the presentation of the Draft report on Commuter rail to GoK.

As for the information available, GoK is not ready to handover the NGEF & Binny Mill land for Baiyapanhalli & Bangalore city, their is big political pressure to divert the land to senior politicans of Karnataka relatives. every time GoK is giving execue that case is in High court for both lands. One of the reason for poor integration between METRO station & Baiyapanahalli Station where citizens and public are suffering due to self interest of politicans of Karnataka.

You can see how some portion of Binny mill land taken over politicans for ETA Star project & one shopping mall near bangalore city station by congress MLA

High Court notice to railways, State on Bangalore-Karwar train

Quote:
The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday ordered issue of notices to Ministry of Railways, Deputy Chief Operations Manager, South-Western Railways, and the State Government on a PIL seeking rail connectivity to Karwar from Bangalore via Mangalore.

The petitioners, Shankar S. Bhat, Mahesh Kiran Shetty, and another, have challenged the refusal of the Railways to extend the Bangalore-Mangalore night train till Karwar even after the High Court asked the authorities last year to consider the pleas in this regard.

Contention

It has been pointed out in the petition that extension of Bangalore-Mangalore night train to Kannur in Kerala has failed to attract requisite passenger capacity and hence it should be extended to Karwar.

The petition pointed out that there were hardly 100 passengers who travel to Kannur from Bangalore and another 100 from Mangalore, and this is much less than required 30 per cent of the total 1,224 seats in the train.

They have said that rail connectivity to Karwar in the night is essential as a large number of people from Uttara Kannada are residing in Bangalore, and the present tri-weekly day train is of no use for them.

In case it is not possible to extend this train (Train Number 16517/18) to Karwar, then petitioners have demanded for a direction to the concerned authorities to introduce new train to Karwar from Bangalore via Tumkur, Tiptur and Arsikere and Hassan.

At last atleast someone to correct some worng decisions-already 16527/28 runs till Kannur and gets patronage and takes much lesser time compared to 16517/18-and the extension of the tri-weekly to Karwar has affected even people travelling between Hassan and Yeshvantapur owing to its bizaare timings in reaching Yeshvantapur

that train is not for kannur people. That is for kasargod people kannur people can use either train, but kasargod people are helped by that, people travelling between kannur and bangalore maybe 100, but kasargod-bangalore will be much more than that..

That day train timings can be changed to reach yeswantpur early. Let us see what comes out in this budget
