Plea to upgrade amenities at old railway station in Shimoga

Quote:
The Shimoga District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SDCCI) has urged the Department of Railways to upgrade amenities for passengers at Old Railway Station near Vidya Nagar in the city.

“More than 50 per cent of passengers from the city and from Holehonnur and surrounding villages use this station. Unfortunately, amenities for passengers here are in bad state. The Department should upgrade the amenities here at the earliest,” member of SDCCI K.V. Vasanth Kumar has said in a press release.

The chamber has urged the department to extend the newly introduced Mysore-Shimoga passenger train up to Talaguppa. If the train service is extended up to Talaguppa, by boarding this train, people of Sagar bound for Bangalore can catch the Hubli-Bangalore inter-city train at Birur.

On the traffic problem at the railway-level crossing on Holehonnur Road near Vidya Nagar, the chamber has said that an underpass should be constructed there to ensure smooth traffic.

It has demanded that the government hand over the land in its possession for construction of a 100-foot ring road in the city.

Between all these go to Solapur i guess which is not needed as they come back all the way to hotgi junction.
This train could be started from Bijapur ->Hotgi->Gulburga -2 to 3 hours whilch could serve Bijapur people better as Solapur has tons of trains to Bangalore.
Bijapur connectivity to BLR is so poor with Basava Express & Golgumbaz expess which again go to Solapur
the reality is with starting of Ypr-GR-SUR superfast train ... now Blr to Gulbarga distance is covered in just 8 hours 20 minutes!!! so in 8 hours the train covers distance of 585KMs at average speed of abt 75KM/hour! thats marvelous!

It is totally it is 655 km in 11hrs 15 min @58.2 kmph from Solapur to Yeshwanthpur ( via Gulbarga, Wadi, Guntakal, Kalluru and Dharmavaram).

Even from Gulbarga, it is 542km in 9 hrs 45 min @ 55.6kmph

Even Karnataka exp does not run at the speed that you have mentioned. Wish it happens fast

Talaguppa-Honnavar rail link delayed

Published: Monday, Sep 10, 2012, 16:25 IST

By DNA Correspondent | Place: Honnavar | Agency: DNA

The recent train connectivity on the Mysore-Bangalore-Shimoga-Talaguppa route has kindled a new hope for the people of the Western coast, particularly for those living in the northern parts of the coast who have to depend on buses and trucks for movement of passengers and goods.

The people have petitioned the Union minister of state for railways KH Muniyappa to complete the 60-kilometre stretch between Talaguppa in Shimoga district and Honnavar in Uttara Kannada district. They reminded him of the promises he had made to the people of Shimoga and Uttara Kannada on a number of occasions.

Muniyappa had recently said that Talaguppa-Honnavar line was an important link, which would connect Malnad areas to the coast and Uttara Kannada district to Bangalore.

“Railways has already got administrative and financial clearances from the government for both Hubli-Ankola and Talaguppa-Honnavar lines. Only forest and environment clearances are pending,” he said during an interaction with the people.

People in the state are disappointed that the railway ministry did not take up Hubli-Ankola and Talaguppa Honnavar lines despite having all clearances ready. “The Hubli-Ankola line will open a new corridor toward Mumbai and interior Maharashtra via Hubli-Belgaum. It will also connect Malnad to a large portion of north Karnataka.

Currently, road is the only means of transportation in the area, which is expensive and tedious,” said Anil Bandekar, a member of the Uttara Kannada Railway Users’ Forum.

Coast and port connectivity has been ignored and this will cost Karnataka in the long run. Trading in commodities and engineering goods mostly happen via Mangalore. Without port connectivity, a large hinterland of Mangalore has been left out.

Coupled with this, if Dharwad-Belagaum track is laid, then a further 40 km would be cut.

What a great saving and convenience would this be when commissioned!!!
Friends,
could you provide the english translation please.
what is this project which will save 70km in Hubli-mumbai-bengaluru project?
also is DWR-BGM direct line is sanctioned and going on? currently it is via londa and 121 km.

Meeting on rail projects tomorrow

Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa has said that the Railways accord priority to infrastructure projects whose costs are shared by the States.
He said here on Monday that Karnataka had shared half the cost of 15 projects and Andhra Pradesh for 12.
“They remain priority projects. We are committed to completing all of them on time,” Mr. Muniyappa said, before flagging off the Bidar–Hyderabad Intercity Express here. States such as Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu too were following this model now, he said.
“The Karnataka government shared two-thirds of the cost of doubling the railway line between Bangalore and Mysore. The work is in progress and we plan to complete it by December 2012 or early 2013,” he said.
Mr. Muniyappa said the progress of all railway projects in the State would be reviewed at a meeting with Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar in Bangalore on Wednesday.
He said the departure timing of the Nanded–Bangalore Express from Bidar had been changed to 2.30 p.m. from 12.30 p.m. However, it would be difficult for the Railways to change the timings to make it an overnight train from Bidar to the State capital. It involved coordination among three zones and required changes in the timings of other trains, he said. Mr. Muniyappa said the Railways were forced to consider running an intercity train between Bidar–Hyderabad following appeals from the former Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh and some other organisations.
The Minister said the Railways could study the demand for extending the Nanded–Bombay Express to Bidar and running trains on the newly laid track between Bidar and Humnabad.
“We would also consider demands of stopping the Kacheguda–Manmad train at Kamal Nagar station in Aurad taluk,” he said.
G.N. Asthana, South Central Railway General Manager, said that they were working on laying new lines between Bidar–Gulbarga, Raichur–Gadwal and Kadapa–Bangarpet. Work on the first two tracks was 60 per cent complete. Work on the third had started.
“We are on the verge of completing a project to convert Bidar Railway Station into an ‘Adarsh’ station. We have given it a facelift and provided passenger amenities. We will build pay and use toilets, platform shelters and extend the foot bridge on either sides,” he said.
