Seattle Coffee Shop
I decided to start this thread as a sort of off-topic area. I think whatever is posted here should relate somehow to the things we talk about on SSC. Most posts can go in their respective threads. However, I realize that what we want to post doesn't always fit in well with all the other threads. Feel free to post anything here.

Thanks. Bellevue HS is playing Katy right now.
You can listen here: http://icecast1.tsrnsports.com/streams/stream-01.asx It's very cool to know that a school from the area that I lived in is playing a school close to where I live now. |

Still can't believe that Zara doesn't have a store in Seattle. That's the only store I miss.

I wish Seattle will get FCUK and Armani Exchange soon. They both told me though emails that they're interested to open new stores in downtown Seattle around last year. I think this economy stopped them.

oh, i thought this thread was gonna be about the coffee shops in seattle. got me excited for a sec...but i guess i'll still talk about them...
I should call this the stuck up barristas in Seattle's coffee shops: ![]() Vivace: Love their coffee, but I gotta say, they've got the most stuck up coffee makers there...my least favorite of their stores is the one in South Lake Union, right across from REI. True Story~One of them tipped themselves on my credit card transaction...I know! Another Story~When I was ordering once I accidentally referred to the cup size as "grande" and was met with an unpleasant attitude, "you mean 16oz". I later proceeded to pay with my Starbucks card (yes, I have one for emergencies) just to piss her off. Umbria: You know the fancy dressy barristas at their Pioneer store. I guess their attitude is warranted...I mean, who would wanna make a latte in high heels. But how about he stuck up gays? I may dislike Starbucks because of their coffee, but I gotta say, they are really nice when it comes to customer service. When I'm in crappy mood I tend to stay away from Vivace and Umbria. Lately I've found the Cafe Allegro inside Whole Foods at 2200 to be superb. Looking forward to hearing from your Bitchy Barristas experience...and thanks for bearing with me, I've been wanting a platform to vent....as I hate poor customer service. lol. |

In other forums on SSC this type section is called a "skybar" or in the LA forum "Interchange." Only in Seattle would it be a coffee shop.

I've actually had pretty good customer service at coffee shops around here. Though it's probably because I stick to starbucks lol. independent shops are probably less customer service focused since they probably don't do any training on it.

Yeah, some sections call it that. I think Seattle Coffee Shop is better though. :P Once people figure out what it actually is, it won't be so bad.

Fittingly the common topic so far is coffee shop service
![]() I never had an issue with coffee shop customer service in Seattle. Here in NYC I can't believe how many people like Dunkin Donuts coffee. I only tried it once and it was insanely sweet, they do the sugar and milk for you. Maybe I'll try again before I totally right them offI work at a coffee and tea importing shop. The company's been around since 1907 but my Brooklyn location opened a year ago. http://www.portorico.com/store/ We sell about 75 different beans for $7 to $9/lb, and several others for more, and they're freshly roasted down the street. When we get the new bags in they're still warm from the roasting! I can't believe people still spend 10$ or $15/lb for supermarket coffee. Or spend more for drip from Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. We personally choose which 4 coffees to brew every week and we can tell you about the coffees. Not trying to plug the company, I don't care a whole lot about it, but it has completely changed my opinion of a coffee shop. Plus we have about 130 different loose leaf teas. Oh and we have a coffee known as "Civet Kalinga" that sells for $350/lb! It costs so much because, get this, a certain cat in the Phillipines eats the coffee beans and they are collected after they beans have been passed. Supposedly the digestive tract of the cat strips the beans of acidity. A little bizarre in my eyes. The one bean I hear the most good things about though is Jamaican Blue Mountain. We sell it for $50/lb.

I too though this thread would be about coffee...
I'll put fav spots out there: Downtown - Midtown espresso Fremont - ETG, the little hole in wall place. Georgetown - All City is excellent and the service is great. Heck, while you're down there get on the growler system at Georgtown brewery and you'll have both excellent brew of both kinds. |
