I never had an issue with coffee shop customer service in Seattle. Here in NYC I can't believe how many people like Dunkin Donuts coffee. I only tried it once and it was insanely sweet, they do the sugar and milk for you. Maybe I'll try again before I totally right them off

I work at a coffee and tea importing shop. The company's been around since 1907 but my Brooklyn location opened a year ago.

http://www.portorico.com/store/

We sell about 75 different beans for $7 to $9/lb, and several others for more, and they're freshly roasted down the street. When we get the new bags in they're still warm from the roasting! I can't believe people still spend 10$ or $15/lb for supermarket coffee. Or spend more for drip from Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. We personally choose which 4 coffees to brew every week and we can tell you about the coffees. Not trying to plug the company, I don't care a whole lot about it, but it has completely changed my opinion of a coffee shop.

Plus we have about 130 different loose leaf teas.

Oh and we have a coffee known as "Civet Kalinga" that sells for $350/lb! It costs so much because, get this, a certain cat in the Phillipines eats the coffee beans and they are collected after they beans have been passed. Supposedly the digestive tract of the cat strips the beans of acidity. A little bizarre in my eyes.

The one bean I hear the most good things about though is Jamaican Blue Mountain. We sell it for $50/lb.
Did you being from Seattle influence their perception of your "coffee prowess" when hiring you on?

I would love to see a fcuk (for those of you have may not know, that's French Connection United Kingdom, btw, a fashion outfitter out of London, and it's always lower case when you write it, not upper case).

Also, our A|X is a sorry excuse for a store, it's small, cluttered, and presented poorly, and they only have a tiny fraction of their line. I suppose a lot of that could be fixed with different management. I would LOVE to see a premier A|X downtown, like a flagship store.

Seattle is obviously moving in the right direction for us who love shopping and fashion, but we are still a far cry from most other West Coast Cities (perhaps excluding Portland). Some may find that a good thing, but I wish our shopping districts were at least on par with Vancouver - they aren't.

The downtown shopping district could really be something great. I'm not saying it's bad by any means, but I hope some board somewhere is trying to find places for new and exciting retailers. I think there is a demand for downtown Seattle, just so little space (although that could be a lie since no one has snatched up the old Adida's or Rite-Aid spots yet as far as I know).

Honestly no. They knew I had no prior coffee experience. My hiring manager told me it was because she liked me as a customer before I asked about a job.

As far as I know, Armani Exchange is the cheapest Armani line. Are you talking about the one in Bellevue Square or is there one in Seattle?

Armani Exchange is the young, urban line and yes, it is the most affordable.

There is only one in Seattle, it is in Bellevue Square, but being familiar with several other Armani Exchange locations (I'm from the east coast), I can say that ours in definitely on the bottom ring of A|X stores.

I think an A|X would really flourish downtown. It's about in the same competitive market as Banana Republic, Express Men, and Guess. Perhaps a tad pricier.

I don't think Seattle would ever really get a true Georgio Armani boutique which sells his "black label" line, which is fine, who can afford it?

A lot of people can. Walk into Nordstrom, and check the price tags of clothes. Go with your girlfriend or wife, and look at the dresses. You can find dresses for upwards of $1000 easily. I don't think the Giorgio Armani store would be more expensive than that, at least not for the most part.

Btw, in my opinion, the A|X store at Bellevue Square is fine.

I wouldn't even bat an eye-lash at seeing a $1000 dress. Of course, I would never pay such a price for fabric in a million years, but that's a far cry from true high fashion.

A place that sells genuine black label Armani or other equivalents from Versace, Dior, Valentino and the like would have pieces measured in multiple thousands of dollars and of course, genuine haute couture would be even more.

I'm not aware of being able to buy any such clothes at Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus. They may sell very fine and very expensive clothes, and they may have mass-market top-tier lines from Armani that are hundreds or possibly a thousand or more dollars per item, but that's chump change when you are talking ACTUAL high fashion from those designers.

I'm not trying to criticize, the A|X store in Bellevue is "fine" as you said, but you must not have much to compare it to regarding many of their other locations. They are often spectacular.

I think Giorgio is a lot more expensive than $1000 level.

I know I'm in to sports and a lot of you probably aren't, but I must say I am so glad I don't care about fashion. Why someone thinks the name of a piece of clothing is important and will pay up absurd prices for it is beyond me.

For the money you'd spend on Armani mainline stuff, you could spend half that and get something of higher quality somewhere else. As for AX, why would you want to spend $50 on a hideous logo'ed tee-shirt? Go spend $18 at American Apparel instead.

Who would wear it? Half the women in this town don't bother to wash their hair and the other half look like they are going to a Scooby-Doo audition.

Lol. That's funny. I think there is an emerging fashion craze in the Seattle area, and I think, with all the expensive stores that are springing up, there are definitely people who would buy from them.

LOL.

I actually would have to agree. Women here are not attractive in general.

Do we have to be politically correct here as well?

Since nobody asked, the perspective of one who has been roughly the same size all his life and bought All Those Clothes. Holy siht. And they were so cool at the time. Really. Would I ever like a do-over on that one.

Also, I read somewhere that it is okay to go off PC in Coffee Shop.

Newspaper kiosk

I'm sure others have noticed that the derelict, shuttered newstand kiosk on the corner near Ross Dress for Less on Third Avenue has been replaced by a new, good-looking kiosk. I think it may be the only one of its kind left in the city. I'm so glad the derelict eyesore it replaced is gone.

I agree about the kiosk.

And about the women, they move here to our isolated city so that they don't have to try anymore.
