Maybe a little far out but the kind of vision I'd love to see in Seattle!
WOW!!! Some of buildings on that thread are sooo AMAZING!!! I agree that Seattle should get some of this crazy buildings. Many people still consider Seattle as futuristic city and should build more futuristic buildings to keep it up.

Some of those are just incredibly awesome. We do have some mildly futuristic buildings in the works. 5th & Columbia looks a lot like some of those pictures. I'm hoping they build a complex with super futuristic 800-1000+ foot tall twin towers at the center on the Clise Properties. That would be great.

Some of those look good, but most are too futuristic and will not fit in any skyline.

I'll definitely have to visit Austin first (if I get accepted to UT, or even if I'll apply) to see how it is compared to Seattle.
Coming into this discussion a little late: I've been on hiring committees for programmers for a number of years now, and can say without a doubt that name brand of school has been a very good predictor of how well a candidate will interview. (Side note: Of course, we've only hired the ones who interview well so it's hard to judge whether the interview process is flawed, but the interview style has been similar for every company I've worked for, from Microsoft to a 5 person startup. That said, I read somewhere that Google has found that people who "squeak by" their interviews actually tend to be better employees, which supports the theory that tech interviews select for the wrong skills, so it's possible interview styles may change in the future.)

So anyway: if you're 100% sure you're interested in CS, UW is a better bet than UT, not because UW is better than UT across the board, but because it *is* better than UT at CS, which will certainly get your foot in the door at more companies and may also prepare you better to do your job.

But if you don't know what you want to do for sure, UW vs. UT is probably a wash. They're both among the bigger, better state schools and have huge resources but no focus on teaching. I tend to believe Seattle's a better place to live than Austin is, but you won't go wrong with either.

I'd love to have this on the Seattle waterfront.

A Seattle PD officer was gunned down last night in Leschi in a random shooting. God, I hope whoever did this is caught and more.

Yeah that buildings a little far out. But I'd love to see something in Seattle push the envelope like the ones in that thread.

Don't forget we have the EMP, Central Library, Rainier Square and the Space Needle - each very unique but we are used to seeing them so they're not that special to us. Many cities would be in awe to get just one of these.

It looks like it's already on SLU because of the hill, the building on the top left of the hill (skinnier) and the position of the setting sun.

What would be even cooler would be to have an extension of the monorail going through the hole. Jetsons!

It's been on my mind all day. This was really bad, the worst. and simply should never happen in our country. I for one would contribute very generously to a reward fund.

I've had the same thoughts. Incredibly tragic, and frightening.

Some place in Malaysia or Indonesia will build something like that building.

I agree, it's definitely forward-looking, but I can just imagine and laugh about the civic freak-out if that was unveiled as a planned building for Seattle.

YES! I'd love to have that "Death Star" building to get built in Seattle! I think waterfront is perfect location for that.

Just curious, aside from a stunning appearance and a guaranteed position as the symbol of its host city, does the design have any practical value? If it's a sphere and not just a shell, there will be a a colossal amount of windowless space.

Agreed.

A completely bogus university ranking... but it does show which schools have better reputation. And UW got owned.

Eh..rankings. It seems like every single person ranks them differently. I'd say the 21st place is good nevertheless on any ranking. I haven't even heard of some of those universities..
