If there were hot Parisian ladies running around here we'd build nicer buildings to get their attention, too. (:

I didn't want to bring the Amazon thread back off topic, so I'll continue the philanthropy discussion here. Check this out. The Sun Break somehow ties the Amazon controversy to the gondola idea to the guy that built the library near my house a century ago. I hope someone forwards it to Bezos.

I love the gondola idea. Sounds like a pipe dream, but I love it. It would be a huge tourist attraction for Seattle. Plus it would benefit commuters as well.

Was perusing the census website last night and not sure if I was here when everybody started mining the data, but here's some interesting up-to-date downtown population numbers.

2010 population-
Downtown Seattle: 29,969

Downtown Bellevue: 7,151

Downtown Tacoma: 5,878

Downtown Portland: 19,033

Hard to get any meaning from that, given that they're not parallel and "downtown" definitions are obviously subjective. Do we at least know what geographic areas they used?

Try deciding on a pseudo-objective definition of city boundaries. I ultimately decided the city boundary for Tokyo was conterminous with the prefecture, based on an "administrative" definition. (The former city government merged with the prefecture in the 1940s.) We don't really have that for city centres, so I guess we'd have to go with variables like zoning, land use, etc. to make that determination. Also, Seattle doesn't have anything like wards or boroughs with their own administrators. Interesting though....

Top Chef is looking to film season 10 in Seattle or Portland. I think it'd be cool to do both for season 10. Thoughts? Either way, it'll be great for the food scene of the PNW. I wish both cities the best of luck! Disclosure - I haven't watched a season in about 4 years.

A Seattle vs Portland season would be awesome. But Im sure even Top Chef is unaware of that dynamic of the PNW restaurant scene.

No. One or the other. No back and forth. It's as if we need them to help prop us up because we don't have enough to offer the show on our own. No.

I think it'd be great. I've been Tweeting it to @Bravotv this morning. Could you imagine a Most Locavore City Challenge? Most Sustainable Menu Challenge? Workaholic vs Slacker restaurant concept. Tweet if you like this idea to @Bravotv.

Most Passive-Aggressive Quick-Fire Challenge. Best Hipster Plating Quick-Fire Challenge. Smuggest Amuse Bouche Quick-Fire Challenge. I think it'd be hilarious!

Designing a menu for each city's hottest musical act and throwing a theme party around it. FUN!

American ladies don't cut it?

Is it their style or their genetics?

I love Top Chef shows! I hope they will choose Seattle this time. I won't be surprised if that show will have Tom Douglas or one of these three guys (Luc, Maria, and the guy from Poppy's who were on Top Chef shows before) would be guest judges for that show.

Seattle Times and The Stranger have both received Pulitzers. Pretty amazing for our provincial little town.

After hearing it in my coffee shop this morning, on my way to work today I figured out that the melody of the Eurythmics song "Sweet Dreams" consists of just 4 notes, maybe 5 at the most.
