That is the case with most newly industralized countries where you got rapidly developing urban and industrial areas while those in the other parts of the country remain in poverty.

Its just not Malaysia but also other countries in Asia such as Mainland China, Thailand, The Philippines, Indonesia and even Vietnam.

what d'ya mean poor? i'm kinda disagree with you... although the income is alot lesser in other states, but cost of living is also less... so we manage a pretty comfortable life...

Exactly. They live a comfortable life and are much better off than many of them in other developing countries.

Thats not true. I've been to Singapore for many times and didn't find Singapore "clean" like cities in Japan I'd put Singapore just a lil bit cleaner than KL overall in both city and suburbs area.

true Singapore is generally lil bit cleaner than KL

however I would think the comparison goes more specific like Bukit Bintang (not to mention Jalan Alor Jalan Pudu areas) vs Orchard-Sommerset area or Petaling Jaya (lotsa rubbish) vs Tanjung Pagar, or our Golden Triangle vs Raffles Place.... we can also take the predominant Chinese areas of the two cities, our Jalan Petaling vs Singapore Chinatown, I would sincerely say KL still has alot to improve (well Chinese areas in KL is famous for its unhygienic and un-orderly style). Or compare Brickfields and Singapore's Little India.

Another very good example is our Malaysian toilets and drainage (haha). I also believe some busses in KL is quite dirty. I dislike walking on Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman or driving along Jalan Ipoh.

Look at our rivers. Sungai Penchala and Kayu Ara. Sungai Klang. Everytime the Monorail passes by Maharajelela area is a shame to me. Or issit we have alot of immigrants from the developing world living close to the city?? Overall, Singapore is actually miles ahead of KL.

in Asia, KL has the most extensive, the most complete, the most equipped, suburbs. hands down. no one come close. i've been to many countries in ASEAN and i'm pretty sure my verdict is the honest one...

i never go any asean capital city outside malaysia and singapore...but frankly..i think there is nothing much different between the capital city in asean..maybe kl, singapore or bangkok a bit ahead in term of cleanliness...but in term of modern, skyline, nightlife...there are not so much different.. jakarta and manila for me looks modern as kl, singapore or bangkok....while hanoi and saigon are the new germ...

don't judge a city by looking at its fancy skyline, bro...

many people judge a book by its cover....
