Nice, good to hear. I believe the number of Egyptian's Broadband Subscriber should increase rabidly as it's the new era in Egypt nowadays.

Ah, so now it's a competition ey? That explains quite a lot, actually. I'll make sure to bring it up next time a thread gets derailed by the gang
![]() Regardless, your comment makes little sense considering I just posted figures that aren't from 2008

Nigeria probably has around 500,000 - 600,000 broadband subscribers at this stage. Ghana likely has 50,000 - 60,000 broadband subscribers. It is growing so fast we are all racing to get spectrum to deploy services there. I am involved with the controversial Wimax spectrum auction which is still going through the courts. I was involved with the launch of iBurst mobile broadband network in Ghana and we sold 15,000 modems there. 11,000 of these are active subscribers. Zain has also entered market with 3G services and i believe they have 5000 subs. Other notable competitors are Ghana Telecom with ADSL, Internet Ghana, MyZipnet, Africa Online and other smaller players. As for Nigeria, there are obviously a lot of competition from local and foreign owned players, but current services have been largely too expensive and slow with a lot of operators offering unreliable service. But 3G services appear to be growing really well. |

In Alexandra (a slum in Joburg), you would have to explain to them why they should spend their money to get internet instead of buying booze and other things. I guess the fact that there is something they can use it for that can benefit them immediately like getting a VISA invitation, connecting with a relative in London and perhaps even benefiting financially makes internet access more important in West Africa than it would appear to be to an average person in Alexander, South Africa. I still have a picture on my other laptop of a woman who sells peanuts stopping by the street to inquire on how she could get connected to the internet in Ghana. |

I really hate these South African companies that just crew up everyone with their moon prices.
Now do the government allows these practices? Its like communism. monopoly, monopoly. This isn't Capitalism/free market. There is no competition. VODACOM that is expensive compare to other operators in Congo, but we wont allow monopoly. Monopoly screwed us up for long time. |
