Kensington Neighbourhood Centre | Prescot Road | Mixed Use
![]() ![]() Thought I's start a thread for this project, seeing as it is now on site. Kensington Neighbourhood Centre Mixed Use Development Location: Liverpool Value: £5,215,025 Client: CTP Developments/Riverside HA Duration: 52 weeks In the Kensington district of Liverpool, Allenbuild North West is undertaking the design and construction of an important urban regeneration scheme on the site of the famous Silver Blades Ice Rink. Some of the project team have fond memories of spending time in the 60s at the venue. One of the team even met his wife there and has been given a piece of the old rink concrete slab as a memento. The £5.2m contract is for leading developer CTP Limited, who are working in partnership with Liverpool City Council and Kensington Regeneration. The project comprises a community fire station for Merseyside Fire and Rescue, 24 new build residential apartments in a “statement” corner three storey building which also provides an Iceland store retail space at ground floor. The conversion of a listed building to provide a further four apartments. All are for Riverside Housing Association. There is also further retail space provided. |

Doesn't seem like the most ideal location for a fire station given it's traffic hell around there.

![]() ISTR that the Durning Road fire station is a listed building, and will be saved when most of everything else nearby disappears as part of the mass clearance in that area. As for the Kensington development, apologies for being negative, but I agree with Dreamer - it's not great. The second image, the side elevation, does absolutely nothing for me. It's absolutely lacking in virtually every respect. The first image, showing the corner, I like a little more, as it does offer some interest, both in itself, and in comparison to the utterly bland side elevation. That said, I do think it comes close to looking messy with perhaps too many different architectural features included. Still though, like I mentioned on the 'Regeneration outside the city centre' thread, it is pleasing to see a long time brownfield site finally being regenerated.

Thought the powers that be had given up on this one, Bendo the traffic's not that bad around that junction, apart from both rush hours
.Should have known when Jimmys chippy was relocated to the other side of prescott road, it will give me the chance to take some pics of the building work when it starts, just hope they take the hoardings down, not tall enough to see over ![]() regards KR. |

I think the two pictures actually relate to two different plots within the same development. The building in the top image can be seen in the background of the second one, across the road.
I don't mind it to be honest. The corner building is quite good and to be fair, anything getting built around there is welcome. |

Would it really have killed them to maintain the roofline with the old building?
![]() Neither of the new builds are anything special but they will make a huge difference to the feel of that area so I'm really glad to see something happen here. The way it's been in recent years with shabby site hoardings and billboards is crap. |

Cheers for the pics. Glad to see work is progressing.
Not one many of us will snap regularly, so this should feel like it goes up quite quickly. |

Thanks for the updates Howie. It looks like there's been some steady progress. I'm still not keen on the design of this development, but it will do good things for the local area, so in that respect it should be welcomed.

Coming along nicely. Although a watered down version of the original proposals, this won't be too bad at all.
