The Mutants, Monsters and Freaks of Nature thread. NSFW
This thread is for the mutants, the monsters and the circus freaks of nature. Please look for a reliable source when posting photos because I don't want to see any PhotoShopped animals!
I'll start this gruesome thread off with a shocker of a story that (bizarrely) barely made the UK newspapers. Slimy, glob-like creature dubbed Gollum has terrified children after it slithered out of a lake and clambered over the rocks towards them. The young teenagers were playing by the waterfront in a Panama lake near Cerro Azul when the bald beast emerged from a cave behind a waterfall. They started screaming as it shuffled out "as if to attack them". http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/article...#StartComments ![]() ![]() But in a "desperate bid to defend themselves" four children grabbed rocks from the beach and hurled them at the beast. Having killed it they picked up the body and tossed it back into the lake, before fleeing. Disbelieving parents went to investigate and were amazed to see the body had washed up on the shore. It has since been picked apart by buzzards. Melquiades Ramos, an expert at the National Environmental Authority said, he will investigate the animal. Zoologist Jacobo Arauz said it was likely the creature was likely to be a mutation and suggested it could be a form of sloth. Last edited by Gherkin; September 18th, 2009 at 01:30 AM. |

I've just seen this story on the Sun website, scary.. It does look like a 'normal' animal that's perhaps been born with some skin disease or something, its hard to tell, because it doesn't have teeth or a proper jaw, it is very freaky..
Still, fear not.. cos as humans we will kill whatever we find before we try to work out what it is, then put it in our ever growing book of extinct creatures. |

Actually, there's a thread here...
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=614018 ...with almost the same title (incidentally, it's also the 3rd most viewed thread in the Skybar !)

It's certainly a Sloth with some sort of skin problem.
I have to wonder though, if something 'shuffles' (hardly a movement to inspire fear ) towards you as if to attack do you really hang around to throw rocks at it?? Awful children! On a side note, i wonder if this is merely a natural mutation or something more sinister - a sign of toxins in the lake perhaps? |

It looks very like a lot of cave-dwelling species (bald, no pigmentation, undeveloped eyes)... maybe this is a new species of cave-dwelling sloth? I know it sounds quite fanciful, but surely such a hideously mutated 'normal' sloth wouldn't have grown to such a size? Maybe the cave behind the waterfall is the entrance to an enormous system capable of supporting larger animals?
I definitely agree that its a sloth though:

Ah, but my (this) thread is more aimed at the deformities within nature - the mutants and the 'monsters' of each species, whilst Spliffy's thread is just the unusual (but medically healthy!) animals.
More mutant animals on their way. I've created a new album in photobucket that I really hope my mum doesn't find. |

Fisherman Hooks Shark With Webbed-Feet
Mary Looi, 48, said she only realised the shark was different when she wanted to cook tomyam fish for her family. “When I was about to cut the shark I found two webbed feet sticking out from the lower part of the body. Looi said she dared not cook the fish after consulting her husband Gooi Man Kaw, 57, who told her that according to Chinese belief, eating fish with unusual features could bring disaster or ill luck. “Immediately, I returned the fish to the fisherman that night at about 10pm. “He threw it back into the sea,” said Looi. ![]() ![]() http://weirdnewsfiles.com/weird-phot...h-webbed-feet/ |

Agreed! I'd loved to have seen a video of the beast crawling towards them!I find stories like this one below much more scary than a naked sloth or a sheep with 5 legs etc: ‘Hybrid Mutant’ Found Dead in Maine TURNER, Maine –Residents are wondering if an animal found dead over the weekend may be the mysterious creature that has mauled dogs, frightened residents and been the subject of local legend for half a generation. The animal was found near power lines along Route 4 on Saturday, apparently struck by a car while chasing a cat. The carcass was photographed and inspected by several people who live in the area, but nobody is sure exactly what it is. It was charcoal gray, weighed between 40 and 50 pounds and had a bushy tail, a short snout, short ears and curled fangs hanging over its lips, he said. It looked like “something out of a Stephen King story.” “This is something I’ve never seen before. It’s an evil-looking thing,” he said. ![]() http://weirdnewsfiles.com/weird-phot...dead-in-maine/ |

Actually the Sloth freaked me out more. Without the hair it almost looked humanoid. Maybe someone shaved (or waxed) the poor thing?

This bizarre-looking piglet has been nicknamed Cyclops because one of its three eyes is in the centre of its head.
And the little pig was also born with two mouths, one on each side of its head. It also has two noses and will have two sets of teeth. The strange-looking creature was unable to feed from its mother - so the farmer was forced to feed it using the mouths it had on either side of its head, which it can use at the same time. Cyclops was the seventh of seven in his litter and was the only abnormal birth. Cyclops' mother was artificially inseminated, and local vets are baffled as to how a genetic mutation caused the pig to look as he does. ![]() http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ths-noses.html Cyclops animals aren't rare though (among mutants). Here's the famous cyclops kitten, but it's an old image so all the accompanying news report pages have been deleted ![]()

I actually found the Descent pretty fucking disturbing. Rare these days for films to freak me out, that film did it.
