Hong Kong for me. The reason is that when I find that in Hong Kong you always end up in a tall building for shops, bars, restuarants etc. It's a true vertical city. In the other skyscrapercities I felt that you ended up doing more in lowrise buildings as well.

NY, HK, Shanghai, SP and Tokyo are the only skyscrapercities on the list.
All the others are cities with clumps of skyscapers. Great skylines? Yes. Skyscrapercities? No!
I voted for Shanghai but then I've never been to NY or SP so it's a bit of a bogus vote...

Even though Mexico city is one of my favorite cities, it doesnt have that many skyscrapers or even highrises to be considered one of the top skyscrapercities of the world.

For me, a skyscrapercity is a city with a high proportion of high-rise buildings, where you can easily live and work in some of them and you see them anywhere you go in the city, and where Spiderman could move in the air! , Hong Kong and NY both are the best for me, and in Europe I would say only Benidorm is a skyscrapercity, other cities like London, Frankfurt or Paris only have a few office towers in one or two districts, but you don't get used to see high-rises everywhere, and very few people live or work in one of them

Just to throw a spanner into the works, the current most highrise city, with over 4000 and counting:

Shanghai

New York is an archetype for skyscrapercity. And it still has competitive dynamic of construction. In terms of quality and quantity combined I think it will rule for a long time.

New York, of course. They may not be the tallest, but they are the oldest and best...

You really should visit. Shanghai is actually carpeted by old buildings and greenery (check out what's below the towers in the pics) - strict liveability laws ensure x amount of people must live in x vicinity of x amount of green space. What surprised me most when I visited was that for all its big city brash and ultramodern skyline, it was beautiful, and liveable - the streets were spotless and lined with old facades and trees, yet still with the traditional vibrant streetlife. Also landscaped pocket parks everywhere, especially the residential areas.
