Looks like it could be amazing... but like Andrew says, the surface parking lot is bizarre;
especially with Winnipeg's winter climate.

Man, that is going to be superb if they can get away with the height. The City Councillor is already up in arms against it.

Nodélo: second of four so-called eco-neighbourhoods in the works in Quebec City. The $500M project aims to create a diverse living environment by offering 250 units for seniors, 145 renting apartments and 1124 habitation units in the form of duplexes, townhouses, multi-family condos and 6 to 11-story buildings which main floors will offer 100 000 s.f. of commercial space. This neighbourhood will be centered around a public space and a great park which will be handed over to the city afterwards. The promoter aims for a LEED standard:
100% of excavated materials will be used on site 30% less water consumption Pneumatic garbage disposal system with compressing capability 80% of parking space underground 40% less energy to heat water (pre-heating system for habitation units and instantanuous heaters for commerces) Video of the project on this site: http://www.quartiernodelo.com/ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() http://www.quartiernodelo.com/

Wow... when I think of the sunny hot Sunday afternoons I spent on that patio when it was The Selby Hotel, and the nights in Boot's and Bud's bars it brings back a pile of memories! Use to be the best patio around for Sunday afternoons. We would sit under a massive mulberry tree, and every once in awhile a big plump ripe berry would splash on your head or in your beer! ![]() Ernest Hemingway lived in the Selby Hotel when he was a reporter for the Toronto Star. Creeps me out seeing it as the bland chain hotel "Clarion" now, but times change.

Quebec City's convention center is going ahead with its $36M expansion plan. In order to to do so, a small underground shooping mall situated next to the center has been purchased. This mall, with its food court and now defunct cinema, used to be popular but has been progressively deserted over the last two decades. The bulk of the money will thus serve to retrofit the additional 69 160 s.f. of space to serve the convention center's needs.

Not bad, but still a bit on the bland side.

Thank God they will have this competition. I can only imagine the snooze-fest Concord Pacific would come up with for it's signature tower.

43 Gerrard. While I'll agree with what many will say. "It's a mess!" I have to also say that one will only ever see the entire tower from certain vantage points. It's an interesting design and ads a bit of whimsy to a remarkably dull corner.

I like it too. Not sure why everyone on SSP was so shocked and appalled.

It's a site full of immature Toronto haters, it's the fun thing to do over there. People on SSP only like projects in there own cities and will crap on anything in Toronto just by default.

I think we all know why some people on SSP are habitually shocked and appalled by everything in Toronto. With people like habsfanman (now The Gibbroni) and dleung leading the aggressive attacks, not much here is ever going to meet with any approval. Lot's of unresolved issues there.
Loving the idea of the design competition for Signature building of Cityplace!

It will be a pretty smart looking tower; I like the clean whiteness of the trim and there seems to be an interesting take on the indented windows/balconies of the lower section. No twisties, bells and whistles that many are aching for, but the aesthetics will likely stand the test of time better than a novelty shape.
