Salamat rin! Ermita and Malate photos were taken last year, the rest are taken this year. I hope I could tour around Manila again this time. I would want to go to Paco and Intramuros

MANILA — The Manila North Harbor Port Inc. (MNHPI) said it will start constructing the first phase of the multibillion-peso modernization program of country's busiest port in Manila by October this year.

"We are on track in accordance with the contract. The contract provide for us to make sure we develop in such a manner that we maintain shipping schedule as well. What we are working now is the timeline on how we can expedite certain aspects of it.," Richard Barkley, MNHPI chief operating officer (COO) told reporters over the weekend.

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) earlier approved the P 14.5-billion masterplan and design of Manila North Harbor Modernization Program.

Barkley said the first phase of the North Harbor modernization, which entails about P4 billion to P5 billion, will start in October.

The first phase of the modernization involves the redesign of the 10-pier port into a three terminal facility with much wider beds that would, altogether, enable the port to raise its rate of handling containers, from the five containers per hour to 28 containers per hour. Manila North Harbor handles more than 85 percent of the domestic containerized and breakbulk or general cargo.

"Some areas take a little longer, but it doesn't mean to say we are not on track to the industry," Barkley said.

The MNHPI executive also said that the company would acquire two container cranes in October, which cost about between US$ 14 million and US$ 15 million each.

"We expect to deliver the cranes next year," Barkley said.

Barkley also said that the proposed oil bunkering facility is not yet approved by the PPA.

"We have to look at the program with the PPA. We will be doing it very soon with the PPA," he said.

Harbour Centre Port Terminal Inc. controls 65 percent of MNHPI interest while San Miguel Corp. owns the remaining 35 percent.

SMC had said the North Harbor's offshore areas is an ideal location for an oil tank farm for its unit Petron.

Raul Santos, PPA assistant general manager for Operations said the proposed oil tank farm of MNHPI would need a separate approval from the port authority.

For the next 25 years, MNHPI will invest P14.5 billion to operate and manage the port.

MNHPI said the P 14.5-billion infusion will be used mainly for the construction of a modern passenger terminal and other facilities, acquisition of heavy equipment, dredging operations and acquisition of other equally important equipment such as modern computers to ensure the smooth flow of cargo and passengers. It is sad that there are very few spaces now for these less fortunate children to play. To play is very important in the psychological development of a child. I hope the government could renovate a small portion of the plaza as their playground.

Mahirap yan kung walang disiplina ang mga tao. kailangan rin ng kamay ng batas. Maganda at may ordinansa ngayon ang MMDA na naghuhuli sa mga nagyoyosi sa pampublikong lugar. biruin mo rin ang sako sakong mga tira ng sigarilyo ang naikakalat sa buong Maynila palang sa dami ng mga naninigarilyo.
