I wouldn't bet on it!

The one and only reason it's called the Leeds City Region is because Leeds is the economic hub that links it all together in terms of travel to work patterns, sector agglomeration etc. Bradford doesn't do that hence it's not called the Leeds & Bradford City Region.

It's not trying to say that all those places are Leeds, not as good as Leeds or subservient to Leeds - it's just reflecting authorities working together for a reason, rather than an arbitrary line on the map like West Yorkshire.

Leeds may be the largest and most important city in the region but we aren't actually in Leeds and neither should the surrounding cities and towns sit down and accept subservience to it.
As has already been stated, the concept of the Leeds City Region is not for Leeds to lord it over the surrounding areas, but it is quite evident in the statistics and travel to work data that Leeds is the economic hub of the city region. The forum uses 'metro area' not because it feels it is an accurate reflection of Leeds' particular situation, but because it is a generic term it uses for everywhere.

The original point was that CoB likes to argue on behalf of Bradford just for the sake of it (hence the number of threads he likes to keep alive just for the sake of it). Fortunately, the leaders of Bradford, Leeds, Kirklees etc have the experience and sense to recognise the economic case for city regional co-operation, whilst those in the West Midlands are still having issues with that.

Suburban, I agree with pretty well everything you say except that I'm not so sure that all the districts around Leeds have bought into the city region idea. The depressing thing is that you have an example only forty miles from here of what you can achieve when a group of local authorities really do act together. I'm referring, of course, to the Manchester city region which has argued successfully for the devolution of a good deal of activity (and the money that follows it) from London to the regions.

It might bring people from outside of Leeds to enter and visit our city too!

Sorry that I've made your thread into a discussing about the namings of our region, didn't intend to do that.

When will the first Photo Competition start then? Christmas? Fireworks Day? Halloween?

That's a fair comment, and I suppose it's something that has come from the GM authorities being much more closely knit together for a longer period of time, and the LCR being far mroe geographically disparate. The LCR has the added problem of some of its areas being 2 tier authorities (also in North Yorkshire).
