Here's Wojanow Palace in Lower Silesia, historically known as Schildau (interestingly, the original name of the village after it was transferred to the People's Republic of Poland was Szydlow). The palace his a long history but its most present form dates from the 1840's. After being transformed into a labour camp during World War II, the palace was transformed again into a PGR, or a state agricultural farm. Many palaces in lands formerly part of Germany were unlucky enough to be used as part of PGR's, this was no exception and the palace deteriorated until being purchased by a private investor in the 1990's. It was renovated but sadly subject to a severe fire in 2002 that damaged the majority of the building (see photos below). It was reconstructed in its historic form (as opposed to renovated, given the extent of destruction in my opinion).

Pre-WWII:

After the fire in 2002:

A refurbishment of what was a derelict building in Marthyr Tydfil Wales UK, the old Town Hall

How it used to look when closed

The building demolished to create a civic square

(2) As it was all 'overgrown', in 2010 . . .

(3) Then, as it was during demolition in 2011 . . .

Yup, you've got it. Shame they didn't rebuild in it's original pre WW2 design, an opportunity missed.

What an amazing restoration project and what an amazing building - I love it. Wroclaw seem to be doing a marvellous job in restoring their beautiful heritage after the appalling destruction at the end of WW2

^ Marvellous! Geil!
It almost looks like a secessionist Otto Wagner building! Any connection to that?

The architect is Wilhelm Heller - you can read more about this building @ http://wroclawskie-kamienice.blogspo...rzyska-57.html (though it's in Polish, you can always translate it through Chrome to get the gist!)
