Is there a website, SSC project thread, Wikipedia article, anything?

This are yet alone cabinet deliverance. I am no wiser so far. Wikipedia article is defective and small.

In those Polish restorations, I'm assuming it's all private investments? And what are these residences being turned into?

Trying to restore the interior plastering is very very meticulous. since quite a bit was stone making the transition to plaster makes it difficult.

Windsor Castle (second largest castle in the world), where over 100 royal rooms burned down in 1992 - which included the State Apartments,
the most lavish rooms reserved for entertaining. A restorer left her light on, shining on a curtain.

Proceeds from visiting tourists paid for restoration

complete restoration:

I remember that sad day as if it was yesterday. Fortunately the magnificent rooms destroyed by the fire were swiftly rebuilt to their former glory.

Here's an interesting scenario in Polkowice, Poland. Polkowice is a small town (population 20,000 in 2012) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship that survived World War II without significant damage. However, retreating Soviet soldiers, depopulation (the local population dropped to 20%), collapse of local industry and the loss of "city rights" resulted in further deterioration for the town turned village. Without a significant inflow of investment, Polkowice deteriorated and most of the core was torn down or replaced with block housing. The copper industry, which had its roots in the 1960's, resulted in some development and eventually spurred reconstruction of the town's core in the 1990's.

What you see is a comprehensive reconstruction of a small town. Consider that this happened in 1990's Poland and the results are quite decent (i.e. not too PoMo)!

Imagine, being a restorer and at the same time being responsible for the destruction of one of mankinds most wonderful castles. I guess, he or she can't really sleep too well at night for the rest of his/her life...
