Społecznego Komitetu Odbudowy Kościoła na Górze św. Anny (Social Committee for the Reconstruction of the Church on St. Anne's Mountain) was founded with the objective of reconstructing the ruin.

I think the question was whether the church was physically rebuilt by the aforementioned volunteers (as in Guedelon's case) or simply the money needed to rebuilt the structure was raised by them.

This great building of course should be reconstructed.
But there are too many important details missing on this picture. If they are going to make it like this, I wouldn't consider it quality reconstruction.

America could sure learn a thing or two about preservation from Europe. In the states we are still idiotically tearing down loads of incredible historic buildings and neighborhoods, while in Europe you guys are rebuilding buildings and neighborhoods from scratch. Its quite sad really that Americans dont really care about preservation like Europeans do.

That attitude is starting to change fortunately. Americans are starting to take more pride in their architectural treasures but we have a long way to go.

I'd like to see Americans reconstruct many of our lost landmarks. I'd love to see this beauty rebuilt here in Indy.

Zonestraal Sanatorium, Hilversum, Netherlands

Built in the 1920s, became a ruin in the 80s and was recently rebuilt.

Very cool. Reconstructions of such little early modern gems are too rare imho. Especially in Berlin there's a variety of candidates I can think of, that need to come back.

And I agree that American cities need to reconstruct some of their treasures. I recently introduced the idea to do so with the Art deco pearl that was the Richfield Tower in Los Angeles, see here: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...#post122958077

This will never happen in the US for a number of reasons, including the fact that the US a younger country with a vast amount of open space for development, low taxes and levels of public investment in civic structures, a pretty weak economic outlook outside of major centres and the fact that most demolitions came in the name of "progress" through city planning efforts (rather than war or an ideological shift now seen as negative), these lost public buildings will never be rebuilt.

I didn't say it would happen. I'd just like to see it happen.

Also, the urban "renewal" efforts are seen as an ideological shift now seen as negative. For example, the demolition of that courthouse was amid major protest and fighting between the city (which sought to abandon the past for a "better" future free of "victorian relics") and what would become the historical preservation committee.

Also, your description of the US is broad and simplified. It varies dramatically from one place to another.

Regardless, I don't want to get off topic.
