ART DECO In ALGERIA



In Algiers

Hotel Safir Ex Aletti

Street Asselah Hocine, Alger Centre

This Hotel was inaugurated in 1930 by ...Charlie Chaplin !!
It belonged to Aletti Brothers. Josephine Baker Danced there after the Anglo American invasion in 1942 in North Africa (Algiers was at that,time capital of France).
Many VIP slept there, such as Caroline de Monaco, Albert de Monaco, Patrice Lumumba, Fidel Castro, François Mitterand, Jean Claude Brianly, Houari Boumedienne, Hassan II, Charles Aznavour, Georges Brassens etc.. Now the Hotel is closed since few month for renovation.

Boulevard Aissat Idir.1er Mai Alger

Architect: Claro Léon and Ces Albert inaugurated in 1935




CINEMA TAMGOUT Ex Plazza

Aarchitects: Albert Seiller and Marcel Lathuillière. Realised in 1939



Muséé NATIONAL des Beaux Arts

Please do not publish here Soviet architecture. It is so-called Socialist realism not an Art Deco. Soviet cogresses of culture or architects condemned Western architecture after 1925-1930 and later.

those 7 towers there are Art Deco style. It is so-called Stalinist Empire style. You can find a lot of objects and information about it

^ Dude, no! The Stalinist Sisters aren't Art Deco at all. Stroll through this thread, you'll find the vast differences.

Moscow's towers are wedding-cake socialist Empire style (also called, as mentioned, Stalinism and Soc. Realism), a very distinctive mix of Neo-Baroque and Neoclassicism.

Casa Damians, Barcelona

- Built between 1913 and 1915.

- Location: Carrer Pelai, 54, near Plaça Catalunya.

- The interior has suffered many modifications through the last century, with almost no remains of the original interior, except the glass dome. Nowadays it's a C&A store.

Sidi bel Abbes is located in the north west of the country, closed to Oran.
