All these buildings were built by Fransico Salamone between 1939 and 1940. In that period he built almost 60 buildings in 25 municipalities on Buenos Aires Province.

Philadelphia's 30th Street Station
The main train station in central Philadelphia, 30th Street Station:
![]() The glassy modern highrise building behind the station is the 30 story Cira Center, architect Cesar Pelli, built - I think - in 2004. ![]() ![]() The statue is a memorial for the US soldiers - who were employed by the railroad - who died in World War II.

more Shanghai
- its said there's more art deco here than anywhere else in the world, not just the grand buildings but in thousands of smaller houses and tenement blocks. Basicallly the city was caught in aspic between the 1930s and the 1990s - in effect anything that isnt a modern highrise tends to be Chinese shikumen or art deco (and more often both). ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Peace Hotel ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() ![]() ![]() x![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

One of my favourite bits of art deco and indeed one of my favourite modern buildings in general, the Ideal House in London....
![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Much more tasteful than the Newyork building that inspired it IMHO. |

And this building has been destroyed in WWII, then only ten years old. It was built as a departmentstore called "de Bijenkorf" (Beehive) and designed by W.M. Dudok. Famous for building the Hilversum Town Hall. In the late fifties the remains of the buidling were demolisched.
