some art deco residential houses around the place I live in Forest/ Vorst (a commune of Brussels)

the boulevard Guillaume Van Halen with the typical front gardens, main architecture dates from the 1910-30 (a lot of art deco influences):

Typical for the boulevard is the mix in the trees (green/brown)

One of the only towers in the street, an art deco apartment block:

the cutest church in Brussels:

Another Art Deco tower:

The park of Forest/Vorst:

of to the boulevard du parc:

a side street:

Social housing in Dutch brick style:

Like these spooky art-deco houses on Avenue du Villa:

A well balanced art deco structure:

art deco swimmingpool:

And the cultural centre:

Philadelphia's 30th Street Station

The main train station in central Philadelphia, 30th Street Station:

The glassy modern highrise building behind the station is the 30 story Cira Center, architect Cesar Pelli, built - I think - in 2004.

The statue is a memorial for the US soldiers - who were employed by the railroad - who died in World War II.

more Shanghai
- its said there's more art deco here than anywhere else in the world, not just the grand buildings
but in thousands of smaller houses and tenement blocks. Basicallly the city was caught in aspic
between the 1930s and the 1990s - in effect anything that isnt a modern highrise tends to be
Chinese shikumen or art deco (and more often both).

One of my favourite bits of art deco and indeed one of my favourite modern buildings in general, the Ideal House in London....

Much more tasteful than the Newyork building that inspired it IMHO.

And this building has been destroyed in WWII, then only ten years old. It was built as a departmentstore called "de Bijenkorf" (Beehive) and designed by W.M. Dudok. Famous for building the Hilversum Town Hall. In the late fifties the remains of the buidling were demolisched.
