Residential Complex: First SpCity Design Competition Poll

From a possible eleven competitors, we are down to five. I guess I chose the wrong time to set a competition for school starts in September there am I right? I'll set a new calendar for the competition scheds so everyone could join without sacrificing school. But on to better things, this five competitors came up with really unique and exciting designs. This is gonna be tough people.

VOTING GUIDELINES:

I tweaked the voting process a bit. Here it goes

1. You can vote for your top two favorites, and if possible post some criticism or some comments regarding your choice and what influenced it.

2. The competitors are not allowed to divulge information about their works. The designers of the models will be revealed at the end of the voting process. Those who violate this rule will merit a deduction of a vote.

3. Absolutely NO vulgar words, rants, or anything unethical in the poll.

4. The winner of the competition gets to decide three possible categories for the next competition, and then, we'll have another vote to see which category will be used for the next competition.

5. Winner of the comp is inducted to the SpCity 3D Design Hall of Fame.

Guys, to permit you some time for work or school, the next comp will be scheduled in:
October 21, 2009

Time to vote for your favorites!

Competition Entries

Here are the Official Entries

1. Beachway Residences, Cebu ( -1 vote )
*Please do not reveal your identity yet

official renders:

2. Martinique Residential Tower, Martinique

MARTINIQUE RESIDENTIAL TOWERS
Fort-de-France Bay, Martinique

The Martinique Residential Towers (2x 143m) are located at the Fort-de-France Bay, Martinique Island (FR). Martinique is a small island in the Caribbean Sea and is an overseas department of France. Due its financial and political relationship with France, French tourists came to the island in the '70s and the '80s.

The Martinique Residential Towers were originally build in the '80s. In 2008, the two towers were renovated. The two towers were also expanded by adding a shopping mall at the base of the towers and a business center next to the towers.

In 2009, a sport and recreation area was added to the complex and a private helipad and pededstrian bridge over the N2 for the inhabitants was build. Further expansions are planned in 2010.

SeaWaves
Residential Complex

The complex is between sea and a highway, has got a beach and a small bay.
Buses takes people to the city centre, a new highway provides fast connection.
There are two 27-floors towers and a shopping centre connecting them, a public area on the roof of the shopping centre. There's also a beach and a small bay with a hoist-bridge.
A green park, a yellow sandy beach, glassy and wavy buildings - it's your home.[/QUOTE]

I voted for these two for not only are they beautiful in execution, they evoke the environment of the seaside well. Even though Matinique Residences is texture heavy, the building still came out fine, and I love the details he added to make up for excessive texture use. The New Heaven meanwhile is beautiful as well even though its not rendered. The curves of the towers mimic the movements of the sea, and are neither too high or too short, and is just right for its setting. Great job guys!

Congratulations to all of the participants. All of you have produced some wonderful designs that you should all be very proud of.

Ok, I'm going to give my opinion/comments on each one of them and then tell who I voted for:

Beachway Residences:

The overall design is very nice. It is a very clean, sleek, classy, upscale, contemporary design. It has just enough detail to make it work without being over-detailed or too complex. It has a very nice balance of clean-cut design and little details that stand out (for example the staggered vertical columns against the horizontal columns). The towers are also very well proportioned. I'm not sure if it was intentional, but even the physical orientation of the towers is smart. The way the towers are angled provides great waterfront vistas to most of the windows in the complex. My only concern is that the towers don't necessarily reflect their beach front location as strongly as the competition rules seemed to indicate was the goal. Not to say its not a great design. I think any beach front city would be honored to have this complex. Its that good. Again a nice design.

MARTINIQUE RESIDENTIAL TOWERS

I could totally believe that these towers were built in the 1980s and remodeled in 2008. Very smart design. The overall design is very nice. It looks very much at home on the shores of a Caribbean resort community. The towers have a very angular design and it was nice that this was repeated and reflected in the designs of the business center, mall, fountains, landscaping and even the pedestrian bridge. It gives a sense of continuity in the design. My only concern with the design is that the tennis courts and swimming pools are so far from the residential portion of the complex which would be a bit of an inconvenience for the residents. Also I would consider moving the parking to the rear of the complex. Those are minor issues though and this is still a great design.

The Bamboo Grove

Very nice design. I love the use of the wood (I'm assuming bamboo..lol) on the cladding of this building. As stated in the information, your goal was to achieve harmony with the surrounding nature and I think that has definitely been achieved. The design is a very high quality design. My only concern is that the green used on the screens (I think those are screens) is a bit too strong/harsh, a darker, more subtle green would have probably been nice. But that is of course a minor detail. It would have been nice to see an aerial view of the complex so we could get an idea of the physical orientation of the buildings in context to each other but that has nothing to do with the design so you lose no points for that..lol. Great design!

New Heaven Residences
Nice design. I think the three taller towers are an interesting take on the rotating/twisting tower concept. The base shape of each floor makes the shape very interesting as it twists. Almost like a braided rope. The undulating facade is also kind of reminiscent of ripples in water, which is pretty cool given that they are beside the water. The smaller buildings are also very interesting, especially their position right on the water. Nice design!

SeaWaves Residential Complex
The wavy towers go great with the theme of this complex. I think of all the towers created, these towers are the most unconventional and daring, so you get respect for that. Also, the boat harbor/bay with the canal is a great touch. Very creative. The shopping center connecting the two towers is great as well and the landscaping/terrain is nice too!

So..who did I vote for?
My two votes go to The Bamboo Grove and MARTINIQUE RESIDENTIAL TOWERS. Both designs embodied the principles of this competition in reflecting and harmonizing with their respective surroundings. They both look perfectly at home in their locations.

Everyone should be proud of their designs. They are all great!
Oops..sorry for typing so much! LOL

Very Nice Design Everyone!

I voted for

1. Bamboo Grove - The execution and the presentation was perfect, great work sticking to the theme in both the design and the presentation.

2. Martinique Towers - as 540_804 said, very smart design. Even the use of textures can be easily noticed, it came out very great. Very build-able. The only con for this design is it's volume, i think the other tower is very large. anyway, great overall design, you got my vote.

First of all, I would like to say that I'm really surprised how great and awesome this competition is...

I can see here amazing designs and very talented designers/architects...

But the best here I think are Martinique Towers and Bamboo Grove...
That's why I voted for them...

I like Martinique Towers because they are on excellent location, connected to the beach and because they making a great complex from the sport courts to the beach...
Only thing I'm worried about this project is left tower...Because it's massive, I think it's kinda difficult for daylight to reach center of the building...But everything else is amazing...

About Bamboo Grove...I think this is amazing piece of art...It's very modern and futuristic looking complex...I like the location of the complex...It's very special and unique...I can only imagine the view from there at night...And one more amazing thing is how great this complex fits with surroundings...Amazing...

Thanks to all competitors for making this interesting...

.

BEACHWAY-very nice design but didnt get my vote.Would of been
a winner if it had more detail and landscaping...and some life.
The renders are too much for advertising and less on putting
in atmosphere..but sleek nonetheless.

MARTINIQUE-This one is buzzing with life and atmosphere.
has a good residential vibe.Nice design but maybe more
detail on the building. It has nice simple pics of the model
at different views, this was my no.1 vote...

BAMBOO-very trendy design...nice and original ,this got my
second vote but it had a few let downs ,if only it had less
writing and bigger pics with only the model and some signs
of life....presentation felt like looking at ikea magazine
..but very original design..

NEWHAVEN + SEAWAVES-good work in both ,colourful
and nice simple presentation, one was too much and the other too
little but well done..

best of luck to all and dont take my views too seriously

I voted for the the Beachway residences. The design is really great but it's a pity we don't see the bottom of towers and other details.
My second vote was for NewHeaven Residences. The design of towers is great, I like the 6-storeys buildings, too. But there's a problem - the complex needs more details like bottom - doors, roads, plus it seems like the water will flood the ground.

Nice designs, good luck.

It is hard to say which one is the best. NewHaven is cool but needs a rendering.
About Martinique - facades look like taken from a pic, so that's a cheat for me, everything should be made imo.

I'm gonna vote for Bamboo, both presentation & idea are nice. One thing is missin' it's a plan. Skyscraper100 made a nice work too, but i've to choose sth.

Next time maybe I'll be able to start in your contest and conquer you guys

worked better than the double..

lets see what the next comp has to offer
