What an incerdible difference! Everytime I'm in Toronto I see BoM but never really thought about how dirty it looked. Now I can see the difference and how old and dirty the cladding was!

With Trump going up and the reclad going down, it will be interesting to see when both projects reach a midpoint.

looks really sleek. it's amazing how much of a difference the vertical black strips make; they makes the tower look a lot more slender and aesthetically pleasing. it's both a surprise and a relief that they didn't reclad it in generic, green glass.

Once it's finished, it's going to reclaim the brilliance that makes it Canada's tallest office tower.

Full credit to Brookfield for spending $200 million on a 35 year old office tower, smack dab in the middle of the worst downturn since the Great Depression.

By strengthening this tower, they're strengthening Toronto's economic position for many, many years to come.
Well, considering several marble slabs did come loose and fell to the ground, they had to do something fast or risk killing a pedestrian one day.

Nothing to do with vanity per se . It is actually an astute business decision since the only way to keep the building competitive is to give it a facelift . It's not the owners' vanity but rather that of the people who would potentially rent space in it . That it's a tough economic climate gives the building owner all the more reason to put cash into it in order to keep its status as a prestige address .

Truth is that most real-estate companies would love to throw cash at all their buildings (well , the ones in need of it anyway) in order to raise the lease rates . Unfortunately for them , it's easier said than done in terms of finding the cash when necessary .

which job? wish I had one ... lol

If I go out, I am so busy with interviews etc that I hardly have time to take pics, but actually, I should better carry my camera with me so to take pics.

Like the night I was having an interview at the Ritz. I walked out and as I looked up, there was enough light to take a picture, and I could see the snow flakes coming down and the beautiful lights of the hotel and the rest of the city's skyline and I was so upset I didn't have a camera to take a photo. So romantic!

I was all alone walking across the park in front of Roy Thompson Hall and the snow was fresh and the views awesome!

The only problem is, this project is taking so long by the time it's finished the new facade will look old and dirty.

I don't know why i'm so disappointed by this project. In a city that almost prides itself on bland, boring skyscrapers, a refit like this should have been expected. I guess it's just because I think that Canada's tallest deserves something better than this display of aesthetic futility.

This is the reason for the reclad much more than lease rates or prestigious addresses or anything else. Brookfield knew that if a pedestrian got killed or seriously injured by one of those marble slabs they could get their asses sued off and it was hardly economically viable to rebuild a tower in it's place so Brookfield did the absolute least they could to remedy the situation-make it safe but add virtually nothing to the tower. Granted the banks don't have call centres filled with people trying to loan money for projects like this but I still think Brookfield could have done better than this.

Yeah, props to them!
So, Canada's tallest deserves what exactly? A blue 90's look, perhaps the same colour as BA? And your assertion that the GLASS (yes the building will be completely covered in glass) will look dirty by the time they are done is just plain wrong, unless you expect me to believe that all the huge and completely glass covered skyscrapers in Toronto get their entire surfaces cleaned once a year, which they don't. Adding nothing to the tower? Except give it a 100% clean, and a much sharper, non run down brand new look and appearance, and then adding the dark corners which not only appear to slim the tower but make it look less stubby and taller as a result (more elegant whatever you want to call it).
