Hotel Avn Grand, a new luxury/business hotel opened up yesterday in Ranchi.
It is situated right next to the Metro Furniture Showroom (opp GEL Church).

A pic from the hotel's website (http://www.hotelavngrand.com):

JSCA Ranchi Cricket Stadium

Some spectacular shots of the new Cricket Stadium ... Getting ready for the 19th Jan grand debut
Thankfully they totally avoided the multi-colored seating theme ... I personally like this mild blue theme..Pretty Classy!!!

Yippie! Found this pic of "THE Firayalal", Ranchi's own homegrown "Mall" or rather Departmental store (More than 60 Yrs old). It came up in times when probably most of India wouldn't have heard of such a store format.

This place desperately needs multi-level parking

Yes, most of Ranchi is struggling with extreme road crunch. The pressure of haphazard traffic is immense and it takes anywhere between 30 mins to an hr. to reach even like 5-6 Kms. However on a positive note, a ~2 Kms long S-Shaped flyover/elevated road has been santioned for this juntion. It will be coming in from the top of the pic (perspective-wise) and will take a left turn (right of the pic) and then a right turn to merge down into Kutchery Road (another busy area). The construction will commence early 2013 and has a planned execution timeline of approx 13 months (which I highly doubt ).

Here's another view of the same junction from a different angle taken during yesterday's winter rains (due to disturbances from Bay of Bengal)

It will be difficult to construct a flyover with that traffic

Not only that, there would be tons of typical protests by none other than illegal enroachers and shopowners who have encroached most of the footpath bands ...followed by dharna-pradarshans-effigy burning and what nots from the various groups...making this another decade long Jharkhand project. Still hoping sincerely that it sees the light of the day sooner than later.

Ranchi shining...ranchi to compete in Hockey India League

Patel-Uniexcel buy Hockey India League Ranchi franchise

Hockey India (HI) Friday announced that the Ranchi franchise of its upcoming league has been bought by the Patel-Uniexcel Group.
Sahara India and Jaypee Group had earlier bought the franchisees for Lucknow and Punjab respectively and Ranchi will be the third of the six franchisees to compete in Hockey India League (HIL) to be held from January 2013.
“We are pleased to welcome the Patel-Uniexcel Group on board,” said HI secretary-general Narinder Batra.
Patel-Uniexcel is a conglomeration of the Bangalore-based Patel Group and the Chinese Taipei-based Uniexcel Group, and is headed by chairman Suresh Kumar Chauhan.
“I am very delighted that we have got the Ranchi franchise as I come from Kolkata and always carry very strong feelings for eastern India,” said Chauhan.
The chief executive officer of the franchise is Banti Singh, who hails from Kolkata and is a former national hockey player.
