The colour of the cladding in that render is a bit light. It's more of a darker grey.

Exterior is very dreary.

My photography skills aren't up to much. The light actually glistens off the diagonal cladding which is much lighter than the rectangular sections, despite the fact there was no sun out. I think it's very interesting and has a lot of character. The quality of materials used are fantastic too.

I really like it, having been very skeptical on first viewing the renders.

Sport events programme at Commonwealth Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome announced as last seats are unveiled.

Glasgow City Council has announced the programme of events which will take place at the Commonwealth Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in the first few months after it opens in October 2012

The final seats were unveiled today (7 March) by Councillor Archie Graham, Executive Member for the Commonwealth Games at Glasgow City Council, will be joined by Shona Robison, Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport, David Grevemberg, Chief Executive of Glasgow 2014, and Michael Cavanagh, Chairman of Commonwealth Games Scotland, at the facility, which will host two events - badminton and cycling - at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Building work is due to be completed by early summer, with a fit-out period of a few months before opening to the public in October 2012.

The Commonwealth Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome competition and event programme for the final few months of 2012 and early 2013 is as follows:

• Northern European Gymnastics Championships 19 - 21 October
• Scottish Open International Badminton Championships 21 - 25 November
• World Premier Netball Club Challenge 27 Nov - 2 December
• Glasgow World Cup Gymnastics 8 December
• Glasgow Aviva International Athletics Match 26 January 2013
• Revolution World Series Track Cycling tbc January 2013

Airline Emirates has struck a £5m deal to secure the naming rights to the complex which will be Glasgow's main 2014 Commonwealth Games sports venue.

The £113m complex, next to Celtic Park in the city's east end, will be known as the Emirates Arena until 2022 - except during the 2014 games.

The venue includes the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, the Commonwealth Indoor Sports Stadium and three sports halls.

It will open its doors for public use for the first time on 5 October.

The 10-year Emirates deal is the largest ever sponsorship agreement between Glasgow City Council and a commercial partner.

The local authority said it would help inject millions of pounds into the city's economy and give the venue "an internationally recognisable brand name".

However, the branding will not apply to the venue during the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

All venues are handed over "clean" to the organisers - unless an agreement has been reached as part of a sponsorship deal.

'Lasting legacy'

Council leader Gordon Matheson said: "Many of the world's top sports venues already enjoy the considerable benefits and prestige secured through a naming rights agreement and this partnership with Emirates puts us firmly in that elite group.

"The Emirates Arena is a truly world-class venue that will host a genuinely world-class sporting events programme.

"This partnership will bring that venue and global brand together and it will be the people of Glasgow who will reap the benefits. Over the next 10 years this multi-million pound deal will leave a lasting legacy."

During its first four months of operation, the Emirates Arena is scheduled to host eight Scottish, European and world level sporting events.

Emirates' senior vice president for commercial operations Europe, Richard Jewsbury, said: "We sponsor a number of the world's most prominent international sporting and cultural events and this multi-million pound agreement will not only help to inject significant funds into the Glasgow economy, but will also highlight Glasgow's place on the international sporting stage."

In addition to its main constituent venues, the 10.5 hectare site also has one of the city's biggest health and fitness centres, a luxury spa, an outdoor 1km closed cycle circuit and four outdoor five-a-side football
