As for the construction/equipping of the control tower, the service area, the regional control centre, the power plant and the fire station, the funding institution, the African Development Bank, has set the deadline for the completion of the projects in December 2014. The RVA is still waiting for the so-called letter of non-objection from the bank for the work to start. This was supposed to be a formality but six months after the request was sent nothing has happened. Hopefully this is just a bureaucratic hurdle that will be overcome soon. |

Update on the BOT concession contract for the passenger terminal at N’Djili airport.
A tender has been launched by the COPIREP. The pre-qualified companies are invited to visit the site on Monday, May 23rd, 2011. The construction work will start as soon as the successful tenderer is known. Last edited by Pius; May 21st, 2011 at 09:20 PM. |

The rehabilitation of the N’Djili Airport is one of a kind; it has many “fathers”. Passenger terminal: private company (ies) through B.O.T. contract; presidential terminal: RVA through I.D.E.F. program; control tower, fire station, service area, regional control centre, power plant: private companies through ADB funding; runway: Chinese-DRC Cooperation. Hopefully all these cooks will not spoil the broth in terms of future management.

This sickly snail pace of DRC's reconstruction is very disappointing to Congolese who wanna see change occurring in their country. Japanese and Congo's gnmt have inaugurated work on Route des Poids Lourds a year ago and yet nothing resembling work is seen!
The question is, what needs to be done for Congo reconstruction work to pick up steam? |

![]() Look at how Tanzania is speeding up it construction. Especially in Electricity. They are about to pump 5,000 MW into their national grid. And for us, we don't even 1 MW under construction. ![]() The young people must be orniganized and demand more. We cannot depend on old schoolers. they are already tired. Its our future, we must fight for it , if we want it. |

In spite of appearance (slow pace), the N’djili Airport modernization project is a big success for the DRC so far. Initially, the project, which was limited in scale and scope, was to be funded entirely by the R.V.A (government) through the I.D.E.F (airport tax), which was insufficient and would have taken years to complete. Instead, the R.V.A has used part of the I.D.E.F revenue to finance studies that convinced the African Development Bank to fund, in the form of grant-in-aid, not only the initial project (construction of a control tower and service area, a fire station and a power plant) but also a state-of-the-art regional air traffic control centre and the training of the technical personnel in Kinshasa and many other technical facilities at Luano airport/Lubumbashi and at Bangoka Airport/ Kisangani. This shrewd move has made it possible for the DRC to save up to $158 million. Furthermore, the construction of a state-of-the-art passenger terminal will start very soon under a B.O.T. (build-operate-transfer) contract, which will guarantee a sound management of the facility. As for the runway, the Chinese Eximbank has recently allocated $30 million (within the framework of the DRC-Chinese contract) for its rehabilitation, which will be executed by the Chinese company Sinohydro, whose engineer team is already in Kinshasa. In a nutshell: the N’Djili Airport modernization work is proceeding at the normal pace. |

I appreciate your input but blanket criticism is unavoidable and very helpful for the democratic process and especially when no official progress report is being brought to people's attention in a country that allegedly is rebuilding. It's incumbent upon the government to regularly inform the nation on the work progress by radio and television bcse after all it's the Congolese tax payers' money and Congo's natural resources that are being traded to finance these various projects. The gvnmt should know better than anyone else that it's its duty to report to the people how these projects are evolving or being carried out and where they stand. It's the least that is expected from a responsible gvnmt. Criticism will stand as long as democracy stands. |

Oui, cher frere! |
