It's supposed to be modeled after the Colosseum. That mess looks like it's modeled after the CBS logo.

Maybe another hint that he's paid tribute to the Colosseum in the design:

Quote:
Q: What is your favourite example of Sport design around the world?

Meis: I love the Beijing National Stadium – the ‘Birds Nest’ – as an object, but the Roman Colosseum would be my romantic favourite.

On french radio RMC, Thierry Cros, french journalist who's living in Roma : "I've been lucky to see the project for new AS Roma Stadium : it is just a little marvel, a masterpiece, inspired by Colosseo..."

Project presentation in november probably... And now the project is around 65 000 - 70 000 seats, and not 55 000 as previously scheduled !!!

65-70k is just too big and unnecessary. 55-60k seemed like the right capacity.

It's Rome, the market is there, the just need to do a better job of getting fans to matches. Also it would be negligent to build a new modern stadium in Rome and not have the capability to host major FIFA events. So I think it will be just big enough to make this a reality.

The entire premise for a 70,000 seater seems to be based on the fact that Roma once averaged close to 70k during a season when they won the title. That's not usually a great way of predicting demand. Rome might be a big city, but Italian soccer as a whole seems to be settling into a new "normal" with attendances. For big clubs, that's anywhere between 40-60k. The halcyon days of 70-80,000 averages are a distant past.

The Italian economy is not exactly growing, people don't have loads of money to spend, especially on football matches. 70000 is a bit too much. You wouldn't wanna see halo empty stadium at games against weaker teams. 55000 is probably the right amount.

I think the ideal scenario would be a 55k with the option to easily expand to +70k in case of sustained success. Would love to see that (the sustained success, I mean).

Very nice. That kop section is a great idea. You don't see that in any modern stadiums being built from scratch. I'm assuming those gaps are there in case they ever want to expand in the future. I'll have to see some larger pics to see if that is the case.

AS Roma wishes to stress the fact that the images published today of our future stadium do not come from the club.

Therefore, they should not be considered accurate in regards to our stadium project.

Word is that those images are an early render or that the club intentionally leaked them to get feedback.

That wouldn't surprise me. The exterior is consistent with the previous images we've seen, and also what Meis has hinted with his love for the Colosseum.

Those images indicate a mix of European and American styles of stadium. So the European being the Kop, whist the American part being the multi-tiered side.

Hopefully it has indeed been improved since, 'cause it seems too open for my liking. However, it's certainly an interesting proposal.

I am not a fan of the gap either, it usually doesn't help in creating the right match atmosphere when fans are separated from each other. Love the kop though, the Roma ultras will put it to good use.

As pointed out by the club officials, this is NOT the project they have come up with. Why do people leave their opinions? The new stadium will look different as I understand. There won't be any gaps.

Certainly sounds like they were intentionally leaked:

Quote:
il Tempo the newspaper that published the pictures claims they are real and obtained from a source close to Dan Meis himself. But they added that they might be rough/initial drafts. They also confirmed the same pictures from a document that was circulated to get sponsors.
http://www.bigsoccer.com/community/t...#post-28965349

It appears the images are the ones that Parnasi, Pallotta, Zanzi and Meis were pictured together viewing back in June.
