Old towns of Germany: Hachenburg

This time, I present you the oldtown of Hachenburg, a small town of 5710 inhabitants in the Westerwald district (Rhineland-Palatinate) between Köln and Gießen or Koblenz and Siegen. Hachenburg has not that many old buildings and is rather small compared to better known towns, but it's in my home region and that's why I serve you these pics

This is the castle of Hachenburg, built 1715-1746, here a pic form the distance.

Nowadays, inside the castle you find the University of Applied Sciences of the German Federal Bank.

View form the castle to the market square.

Before going down to the square, a view sidewards from a backyard next to the caste. >>>

Market Square (Alter Markt). >>>

Catholic church.

Protestant church.

The building to the left is said to be the oldest stone house inn in Germany. Built 1439. Renovated into the Renaissance-style in 1531.

A house at the market square. And a clock.

The building to the right is pretty new.

Nightview.

This is the Hachenburger Löwe (lion) at the Market Squares Water Well.

Shopping street.

And this is how it looks behind the facades.

This is the old town hall.

What the...?

Enjoy

unidentified location

Hi Patrick. I am hoping you might be able to help metrace my late Dads wartime national service location. I have a couple of photos of what I think was a graduation ceremony (around 1936) and the only ID I have is that on the back of the photos it mentions "photo - lorabach - hachenburg.
I have no idea how to attach the photos to this post (doesn't appear to have a user friendly attachment button) but if you can get back to me on my e mail: [email protected], I would be happy to forward them to you.

Thanks in advance for any light you might be able to throw on the subject.
