I do have to clarify a few points. I speak my mind freely and I don´t use diplomatic terms which I consider a form of hypocrisy.
1.) If you go through your history books, most people emmigrated due to better opportunities abroad (gold, money, better jobs, freedom of religion, more food, arable land or whatever). The Portuguese that leave Portugal do that out of the very same reasons than everybody else have done. Of course, a great deal of the newcomers will return to Portugal (especially expats employed by Soares da Costa and all the big multi nationals) once their contract work is finished but many more will come along. A constant flwo of motion. The community is very heterogenous. However, a great deal of the newcomers will stay in Angola. They have already built their own small companies, houses etc....even in this small video you see Portuguese people that have established in Angola and are doing fine...most likely better than in Portugal. this is about Portuguese in Angola (early 2007) Higer standard of living among other factos are a main ingredient for them not returning. They won´t leave their newly built up companies behind, companies which are very important for Angola´s rise to glory, influence and power. The majority are Angolan-Portuguese joint ventures.....I don´t see anything negative with that ![]() 2.) Angola is investing a lot of money (BILLIONS of US dollars) into Portuguese multinational companies. Sonangol and Isabel dos Santos are Portugal´s biggest foreign investors, so the two countries will be linked with each other and the most important is that WESTERN KNOW HOW AND PROFESSIONALISM will help to build up Angola to a country that it should have become after independece if foreign powers hadn´t destroyed it almost entirely. The Angolan elite is playing strategically! ![]() 3.) A great deal of white and black Angolans who have lived in Angola before the nasty war return to build up their country with them they bring along KNOW HOW as well which is quintessential for the prosperity of ANY country on earth. The number of professional Angolans living abroad and retuning is startling. For example “opais” is reporting on it very well. ![]() 4.) Popa1980 hasn´t answered my question why he hates white people? Your UK is known to be a melting pot with so many people from allover the globe living and working there. Do you think that if the UK had shut its doors and had only allowed white British people to enter the country, do you earnestly think that the UK would have become the place it is today? London is such a fascinating and multi-facetted place because it incorporated so many cultural influences, same goes for Paris, Rio de Janeiro, New York....heck even places like Dubai, Cape Town, Kuala Lumpur, Sydney, Singapore, Madrid, Lisbon etc. All are global or globalizing cities. I know that Angola is Angola and doesn´t need to copy their pattern but the Angolans that I have spoken with are pretty open-minded and tolerant people...so that one day Luanda can be a “mini Cape Town” (in terms of diversity)....if that city won´t make it, there will be no other continental African city EVER South of Sahara to make it. Abidjan? Nairobi? Dakar? Harare? Windhoek? Lagos? Maputo? Libreville? Gaborone? – I don´t think so, honestly said. I I strongly doubt that any of the non-mentioned will make it5.) And popa1980, don´t feel cornered now and accuse me of bowing down to Whites or betraying my cultural roots or whatever nonsense. We are not living in 18th century but 21st century. Global people and global cities will be the winner and on top. I want Africa to succeed at all costs, to join the global community that has been of adavantge to many other places on earth. Human capital in today´s world is in contant motion. There is a search for talent the world over!! Until Angola locally produces innovation, it still needs some more time given the state of a three decade war of complte destruction, it should continue to absorb people that are culturally linked to their country, among others.. Instead of spitting into the faces of people that come and help and bring innovation, we should embrace them with open arms and bind them to their new host countries ![]() I have read emprical studies conducted by scientists where expat communities were analyzed the world over. When a foreigner lives in another country for 10 years he/she has passed the threashold which scietists term as “never-come-back syndrom”. Even if they return, the feel homesick for they place that they left behind and want to return... And why do people always have such a big problem when foreigners come to Africa. My Aussi penpal is Australian. His mother originally came from Italy but don´t ask him to claim his "Italianness”. He is through and through Australian. He was born there and is currently 23 years of age and already has a BA degree. When you show foreign people in African forums, especially in General African forum, people will attack you for betraying your own cultural values. What a shit is this, please? ![]() Migrants if they have good (acdemic) qualification and professional entrepreneurial spirits should be made to feel highly welcome. I know that they are maaaanny Angolans out there who are also highly professional (see my angolan professional thread) and entrepreneurial but this thread deals with Portuguese migration, hence I primarily focuss on this ethnic group. |

matt I think you are from MPLA..the way you talk about all thinks that this goverment say that will do..is kind of touching
...ask any angolan here...they will not do all this they like to lie alot...why they investing in portugal?why they don't make our own big companies??? because all this portuguese companies make they name on they own why we can do it too???look this goverment will give you a huge disappointment that you will stay like ...in my opinion they should create powerful angolan companies..not just sonangol or endiama...from other sectors too...instead investing just in portugal companies that is very wrong...and please don't come with that crap that I don't know economy matt PLEASE....YOU should go to angola and really see what's goin on over ther

Popa1980, some members from SSC wrote me PMs to simply ignore you which I will do from now on. You always look for trouble instead of finally grasping the meaning of this forum which is about urban and modern development. It is not an NGO! We want to display the modern image of Africa, something that I have been doing...just look at all the threads and all the projects that I have shown so far and I have more in store which I will release in the future.
I will put you on my ignore list, feel free to do whatever you wish to do....like carefully hacking at me by means of subtle provocation. I can/will no longer read your messages! Angola is first of all for Blacks but also for Brownies and Whites alike; all educated and qualified people that help to propel the country to greater heights....(Angola due to its history cannot be compared with Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone etc. Countries in Africa do DIFFER!)...and I see a lot of physical improvement that materialized since 2002. As I said another 15-20 years to see wholly transformed and modern country. Evany, I am neither for UNITA nor for MPLA…I am for liberal-minded, technocratic people with entrepreneurial spirits.:: that help to bring under-developed countries forward speedily. Angola should have logically been on par with countries such as Malaysia or South Africa. It pains my heart to see how much time has already been lost, a senseless war for NOTHING, in the end!!! And a Merry X-Mas to you. ![]() Peace |

Angolano de Raiz
I agree with Matthias Offodile
Obrigado. Thank you keep going with this good job |

So a distancia ja custa dinheiro. Last edited by BlackDay; December 27th, 2009 at 01:30 AM. |
