That is just not true though. Perhaps the US media would care to put Russian dissidents on US TV on a regular basis to likewise feed Russiaphobia but such dissidents are often dead before US media ever gets the chance to put them on TV.

Really, some people don't even want to stop ignoring reality, because it's very uncomfortable. Finding various pretexts, stupid jokes, provocations. This is very low and don't deserve attention. Continue to live in your little illusive world. The awakening is very far from you. Don't write anything because you very predictable.

Siegler: A World Cup in Russia would unify the region

January 23 - Markus Siegler (pictured), the newly appointed special advisor to Russia’s 2018 World Cup bid, insists the country has all the has necessary attributes to stage the tournament and is determined to use his unique contacts to bring it about.

In his first full interview since joining the Russian bid, Siegler, the former FIFA director of communications, said he was looking forward to taking on England and the other bidding nations and anticipated a fair fight in the months leading up to the decision in December.

"If you enter into a race, you want to win it," said Siegler.

"That’s the reason they hired me because they expect substantial help.

"This is now my ambition, and nothing else.

"Russia is a strong football nation that has never hosted a major football tournament.

"It's a country in transition.

"Staging the World Cup would really unify the whole region.

"I strongly believe they deserve to stage it.

"Bidding processes are based on team work but you also need a bit of luck.

"I believe in this project, otherwise I wouldn’t do it.

"I'm convinced of the commitment at both Government and regional level."

Significantly, Siegler has joined another former FIFA employee, Andreas Herren, as a vital cog in the Russian campaign and will shortly be travelling to Angola for the final stages of the African Nations Cup to start his advisory role.

"Obviously I know the processes of international football and the relevant people personally," he said.

"So in that respect I hope I can bring something to the table."

In his five years as Sepp Blatter’s head of communications, the well-connected Siegler was the public face of the organisation, fronting news conferences at almost every major FIFA event.

Yet despite his previous public image as a suave and effective trouble-shooter, the Swiss-based one-time journalist insists he has not taken on his new role to return to the international limelight.

"I intend keeping a low profile and not being a spokesman or anything like I used to be."

Interestingly, Siegler now finds himself in opposition to the canny international strategist Peter Hargitay (pictured), who is working for the Australian bid.

The pair worked together when Hargity's European Consultancy Networks (ECN) was hired as strategic advisers to England's World Cup 2018.

ECN's contract was terminated by FA chairman Lord Triesman after the FA decided on a change of strategy, leaving Hargity and Siegler to go their separate ways.

"I have known Peter for many years and am full of respect for him," said Siegler.

"We are involved in a fair competition.

"The same goes for England.

"I have no ill-feelings towards them at all."

The 1996 European Football Championship hosted by England was amazing. I loved the atmosphere and the stadiums.

I can imagine the atmosphere during The World Cup in England, not to mention the world fameous venues at which the games would be played.

COME ON ENGLAND!

Don't think the Netherlands and Belgium will have a big chance to host it, but I guess I can keep dreaming and hoping for that little chanche. We did a good job on Euro 2000, so we're ready to host our first WC!

If we don't get it I hope England gets it.

I think England should get 2018. The next time it comes to Europe Russia is in with a strong chance.
Half the teams are from Europe so half the world cups should be here as well.

I am from the Netherlands and would have hoped that we and Belgium would get it but it will go to England for sure.

In Belgium the government is so twisted that i would not be surprised if the country will be divided in 2 ( French and Dutch region ) so that would not be a good base un fortunately.

You are very mistaken. World Cup 2018 to 99% will be in Russia. In your very small region (~ 500 km) over 20 years were 2 WC and 3 Euro:
Euro 96 - England
WC 98 - France
Euro 00 - Belgium\Holland
WC 06 - Germany
Euro 16 - France
At the same time, the largest country in the world has never hosted the Euro or World Cup.
With regard to Belgium, I agree. Countries such as Belgium (France\ Holland), Ukraine (Poland / Russia) and Switzerland (Germany \ France \ Italy) is artificial and unnecessary state.

Misplaced apostrophe. Shame, because it would have been completely hilarious and the height of wit otherwise.

This poll shoul've been more precise. With multiple choices since we are talking about two bids.
