All hail pvk !! Excellent job again !

Do we know if they're going to be able to stick to the October deadline that was mentioned ? Also, I'm kinda new to this thread. Are they going to open and operate both phases simultaneously ?

Both phases? I thought it's one continuous expy? How will they inaugurate it in parts?

Cool updates PVK!!

I have a question that one of the HYD forumers could maybe clear for me - Mehdipatnam is where the expy starts right? Is this area considered to be a central part of HYD city or a distant suburb?

Because I found it very busy and crowded which seemed to mean it's a relatively important part of the city.. But at the same time it seemed very chaotic and disorganized and so seemed a little rural.. I was just wondering how native Hyderabadis think of this area..

Mehdipatnam is quite close to Central part of Hyderabad areas like Lakadikapul or even Basheerbagh but this area needs some attention when it comes to sanity since there are lot of engineering colleges situated near Chilkur this area is quite choatic with college goers & Business establishments.

At one point it was pretty much on the outer edge of the city, but with the city rapidly expanding, theres been quiet a bit of activity around here. The adv is the proximity to some of the central areas in the city. Definitely it doesnot qualify as any central business area or for that matter any prime area. Other than that, its just another area.

from 0 to 2X2 is not too bad, given the economic situation...
just to share my thoughts, there are several elevated roads and/or bridges (across rivers) in and around New York and Newark city areas -
some are new, some are old- but majority of them are 2X2 lane ...

Major part of elevated expressway completed

Main structure to be ready by Oct. 2, say HMDA officials

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3,492 segments of the bridge were pre-cast

Seven girders used for erecting 291 spans

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HYDERABAD: Inching towards completion by the deadline of October 2, the last of the span of the P.V. Elevated Expressway was successfully erected here on Monday.

With this, the major super structure work of the entire 11.43 km expressway, longest elevated one in the country, has been completed.

According to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) officials, the last and the 327th span of the project was erected by launching girder and with that in place and completing the major aspect, other works for readying the expressway offering seamless access towards the airport at Shamshabad from Sarojinie Devi Eye Hospital were on. “The rest of finishing works such as black topping, median kerbing and road signage are in progress,” he said.

Modern techniques

The work was taken up using modern methods of construction and 3,492 segments of the bridge were pre-cast at the casting yards located at Shamshabad, transported to the site in trolleys and erected using launching girders.

Seven such girders were used to erect 291 spans, each span consisting of 12 pre-cast segments, while the balance of 36 spans were done in the conventional cast-in-situ method. While the main structure of the elevated expressway offering express drive from S.D. Eye Hospital to Aramgarh would be ready by October 2, ramps connecting it at different points would take few more months.

Rs.439 crore

Taken up with a contract value of Rs.439 crore, two other components of the project, an underpass at Aramgarh and a Trumpet Interchange were already completed.

This is cool.

Hers is one more update in Hindu paper

http://www.hindu.com/2009/09/18/stor...1857830300.htm

HYDERABAD: With the main structure of the 11.5 km long P.V. Elevated Expressway ready and finishing works being attended to, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is planning to allow trial runs from around September 27. The facility is to be formally declared open on October 2. For trial runs, the authorities are against allowing two-wheelers and also heavy vehicles. “The stretch is wide open with couple of sharp curves. Though signage is placed, we are wary of two-wheelers racing around dangerously,” says an official.

At the same time, there are apprehensions over having the heavy vehicles climb the expressway as there are no lay-bys created as of now.

“In case of a breakdown, shifting a heavy vehicle will be an issue as the expressway is 11.5 km long. And in absence of a lay-by, sort of widened section used for emergency parking, the traffic flow could be affected,” he says. The lay-bys could take some time to be in place on the elevated expressway as their design is linked to the ramps. Though the main expressway from S.D. Eye Hospital to Aramgarh Junction is getting ready for October 2 deadline, the work on ramps joining the facility at different points has remained stuck in problems such as shifting of water pipelines and also a place of worship at one place. However, the financial crunch has come to hit the country’s longest elevated expressway even at the stage of finishing works of the main structure. The HMDA has already run into heavy dues to the contractor and bills to the tune of Rs.20 crore are still to be cleared. The work in closing stages could get affected to some extent due to non-payment of bills, officials concede adding that each day, about 60 tonnes of bitumen, each tonne costing around Rs.38,000, is being used for the BT work. This alone comes to around Rs.24 lakh per day and without clearing pending amounts, the HMDA might find it hard to push for faster completion.

PV Expressway inches closer to Oct 2 opening

HMDA Metropolitan Commissioner K S Jawahar Reddy inspects the PV Expressway on Thursday.
Hyderabad : 11 Sep 2009 10:42:55 AM IST

HYDERABAD: The HMDA on Thursday erected the last span of the 11.43 km PV Narasimha Rao Elevated Expressway. The late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had instructed HMDA officials to ensure that the Expressway is thrown open to the public by October 2 i.e Gandhi Jayanti day.
With this, the major part of the super structure work of the country’s flyover has been completed.

The last and 327th Span of the Expressway was erected successfully through a Launching Girder.

Works like black topping, median kerbs, road signage are in progress. The Expressway will offer seamless connectivity from the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, Mehdipatnam to the International Airport at Shamshabad.

Fencing on PVNR ExpressWay

Hi Guys,
Has anybody been through the trumpet interchange at the airport.
When the airport approach road ends and after that GMR didn't take up the trumpet interchange. It was constructed by HMDA.

You can notice the sudden change in quality of the bridge i.e the trumpet interchange. Really it doesn't match the international quality. You can notice the poor quality of the fencing of the bridge.

My concern is today(9/21) I saw few pics of PVNR expressway on eenadu e-paper and the expressway looks 100% similar to the trumpet interchange bridge that is constructed over NH7. The road fencing doesn't look good. The city flyover fencings are far better than the PVNR expressway and the trumpet interchange bridge.

did anybody notice this before???? Check out the link

The whole contract of PV expressway involves the major structure (11.6 KM flyover), underpass at Aramgarh junction (IRR and NH7 Junction) and the trumpet interchange for airport. So, this has been given as a package to one developer. So, i am not surprised that the quality looks the same.

To match GMR's quality takes something. The more i go to the airport, more and more i'm impressed by the work GMR has done. (Not only the airport (external, internal) but also the connecting roads and signages etc..)
