Expressway to open before Deepavali
![]() http://www.hindu.com/2009/10/03/stor...0359630400.htm HYDERABAD: A super smooth drive that gives a highway drive pleasure in the midst of the city is the feeling one gets as the vehicles zoom on 11.6 kms long PVNR Expressway that connects Mehdipatnam and Aramghar on the way to international airport at Shamshabad. The longest flyover in the country is nowhere near to what we call roads in the Indian context. It is a pleasure that one rarely experiences on city roads. A few curves apart, which are aesthetically designed infusing lot of comfort, the straight elevated expressway showcases the rapid development of the city on way to the airport and a calm and comfortable driving. The absence of red lights and hindrances in the form of humans or animals make it an enjoyable drive. It was a similar feeling for the Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, HMDA Commissioner, Jawahar Reddy, senior officials and journalists who were on a trip to experience the new flyover that is almost complete and ready to be opened for general public. The elevated expressway touching Mehdipatnam, Rajendranagar, Attapur and a few new colonies before ending at Aramghar will not only cut down the travel time considerably to the international airport but also leave the travellers with a soothing experience. The Minister said it would be thrown open to the people before Deepavali by the Chief Minister K. Rosaiah. Before that, trial runs would be carried out for a few days to check and plug deficiencies in the construction. He said a few minor works, which were delayed to due to heavy rains would be attended before the trail runs start. Painting works to kerbs, crash barriers and railings; fixing of signages, electrification and placing the median slabs are to be done and this work would take a few dry days to be completed. During the trial runs, the expressway will be open only for four-wheelers. Two-wheelers, three-wheelers and other heavy vehicles like lorries and trucks will not be allowed to ply. The government has spent Rs. 600 crore for the project of which Rs. 439 crore was spent for the flyover construction and the rest Rs.161 crore was used for land acquisition, shifting of utilities, subworks and also as cushion for price escalation. A four-lane divided carriage way with a length of 11.6 kms is built with state-of-the-art innovative technology by adopting segmental type post tensioned construction of superstructure. The modern overhead launchers were employed for launching of segments. The corridor is also equipped with necessary instrumentation for monitoring the flyover health. Other major components of the project include Trumpet Interchange for smooth flow of traffic to airport from Hyderabad and Bangalore side; Underpass on National Highway-7 at Aramghar junction for uninterrupted flow of traffic; widening and strengthening of Atgrade IRR from Rethibowli to Aramghar from four lanes to six lanes. |

Simplex Infrastructures has done a commendable job!
having said that, the journalists who rode along with the Minister Municipal-Admin on 2-Oct-2009 have some to say: 1) the road on the PV EEway after Hyderguda is bumpy and uneven 2) starting from M'patnam, the first half of the road is good - on the rest, quality of leveling and finishing of BT works are poor! lack of time is not an excuse for this - it takes the same time to finish the BT topping (even or uneven) - uneven leveling is a matter of quality consciousness! 3) expansion joints: 20 out of 80 places - they came out bumpy - like speed breakers - for ppl driving at 60kmph - it gives a feel of a speed breaker! the excuse is that they had to fix the expansion joints before completing BT works - but the point is, there is an error in estimations/calculations of surface levels! 4) last 5 km: railing walls and median devider - not aligned properly - they came out zig-zag - not good finishing! if a vehicle loses control and hits the railings, it gets stuck there and takes the full impact (could become fatal!) instead of rubbing along the railings before coming to halt... 5) for the country's longest EEway - for the Hyd' prestigious infra show piece - such lapses in finishing - glaring reminders of our quality consciousness - or lack of it! congratulations to Simplex Infrastructures for the successful completion of this prestigious project!! btw, these are some of the issues - the officials wanted to address to the extent possible - before it is fully opened for public! the BT work till M'patnam is ok coz it has been driven upon by the various vehicles used by the workers.. BT works requires some continous sunlight and driven upon by vehicles to fill the voids and make it good.. there has been continuous rains last days which has also impacted on the condition..it was earlier said that works was still required on railings and crash barriers.. and bout those expansion joints.. you will always see them when there is such a length of construction even on some other massively built flyovers..not a big deal..
that journalist ( Sakhshi TV) was what i think bought out by the rivals..theres always criticism...you need to learn from it.. |

i drive on the bridges built several decades ago - some of them are built over 20 feet of water under them and about 30 feet of clearance to allow ships to sail below - not even one of them have bumpy/uneven level finishing! the road-cum-rail bridge built over the river Godawari btn Kovvur and Rajahmundry (AP) - finished in 1975 with expansion joints - not even one bumpy joint! Earlier contractors were different from politicians. In the last 5 year 90% of the Politicians have become as contractors either directly or indirectly. And also All the departments were screwed by the Govt. So What kind of quality can we expect from them? Good to see that you also started questioning about the poor quality/delays/not Implementing the Projects. |

Even ORR has a pathetic quality, every work of congress party is now a crorepati. To give an example a congress guy in our area who use to make few thousand few years back is now a millionaire who own many commercial complexes. While rest of world and India is talking about drip irrigation and water conservation using cost effective techniques, we have sent 35000 crore rupees into the drain in the name of Jala Yagnyam. |

Which part of ORR did you see? In the Pictures ORR Phase – IIA (Shamshabad to Tukkuguda stretch) is very impressive. What about ORR Phase – I (Gachibowli to Shamshabad) quality and when ORR Phase – I including service roads, bridges and flyovers will be completed? Thanks, Vara Last edited by Vara123; October 7th, 2009 at 12:27 AM. |

I went on Phase 1 i guess... i went from Kukkatpally to Shamshabad airport and used the ORR. The road was very smooth (where it was finished). There is a looot of work still do to be done and so there are a lot of diversions etc, basically it is excellent in patches and horrible in patches (which i assume will be fixed when it is actually done)

But my hope is that after Phase-II A becomes Operational, those BOT concessionaires will put pressure on the Government to force the Phase-I Contractors to complete it ASAP. |

You can get on it, not off October 8th, 2009 By Our Correspondent Hyderabad Oct. 7: The PV Narasimha Rao elevated expressway is likely to be thrown open for vehicular traffic on or before Diwali, without the complementary infrastructure like the up and down ramps on the longest flyover in the country. So, think twice before taking it as you cannot get down the flyover till you have travelled the full 11.6 km distance in case you want to turn back midway. From the city, the expressway begins at SD Eye Hospital near Masab Tank and lands on the Bengaluru highway at Aramgarh Junction. Three ‘up ramps’ and 3 ‘down ramps’ were to be constructed after every 3-odd kilometres on either side of the flyover to allow public to either get down or get on to the expressway. But, they are yet to be completed. The ramp construction is likely to be completed only by March next year and till then it will be a one-way journey on the flyover, both sides. Problems pertaining to acquisition of land, shifting of statues and public utilities like electricity sub-stations, Krishna main water pipeline and a religious structure have delayed the construction of the ramps. In view of the problem, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has decided to issue a public notification informing that there will be no provision to get down the flyover until ramps are in place. The HMDA has also decided to disallow two-wheelers and autorickshaws on the flyover. Only cars and buses heading towards Bengaluru highway, mainly the airport, would be advised to take the flyover. “The purpose of providing faster connectivity will be defeated when slow-moving vehicles are allowed on the flyover,” an official said. |

As the city desperately awaits a faster link to the Rajiv Gandhi airport in Shamshabad, it turns out that a political hitch is holding up the inauguration of the P V Narasimha Rao Elevated Expressway. Constructed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), the 11.6 km-long six-lane expressway from Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital to Aramgarh would facilitate a faster and smoother ride to the airport and shorten the travel time from the airport to the city by as much as 30-40 minutes. But despite the expressway being ready almost 10 days ago, it appears that there is a covert operation to get it renamed after the late chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. YSR had given October 2 as the deadline for the completion of the project. But despite it being ready by that time, the expressway has not been thrown open to public as yet. On October 2, the scheduled date of inauguration, municipal administration minister Anam Ramnarayan Reddy had told the media that the inauguration was getting held up because of some leftover works like painting, signage and load test. However, HMDA chief engineer Vivek Deshmukh told TOI on Monday that all works were completed and the expressway was fully ready for inauguration. In the forefront of the opposition to the naming of the expressway after Narasimha Rao is the MIM. “Our party has already conveyed our protest on naming the expressway after P V Narasimha Rao as he was responsible for the Babri Masjid demolition. We will continue to oppose as long as the name is not changed. We have proposed that the expressway be named after Rajasekhara Reddy who is a great leader,” MIM floor leader and Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi told TOI. Though the expressway was christened after Narasimha Rao and works started way back in 2006, the MIM found it fit to oppose it being named after the former prime minister only now. “There appears to be a concerted campaign to get the expressway named after YSR,” one official said. Due to the controversy over the name delaying the inauguration of the expressway, the general public is being deprived of the comfort of using the flyover for the past 10 days. Works on the expressway were started in September 2006 and it was supposed to have been completed in 26 months at a cost of Rs 600 crore including land acquisition. But it got delayed for several months and was finally ready 10 days ago. The state claims now that it will be opened by Diwali but with the MIM firm on its opposition to the expressway under the present name, it looks highly doubtful. WTF!! It already took 3 years for them to complete now they want to have lame excuse for renaming the expressway.I want this MIM to be thrown out of Hyderabad since they are unfit to be called as MLA's or MP's they did minute for the city.
