My little promenade in the Latin Quarter of Paris today

Today I had some time to waste in between two appointments, so I took a few pictures for you on my way through the Latin Quarter of Paris. The place oozes history and MONEY from every corner, and it was quite lively on that weekday's late afternoon. I'm not a good photographer, but I tried to catch a bit of the atmosphere. Enjoy!

1. A Parisian building from the Middle Ages, lost among Haussmannian and post-WW2 buildings. Haussmann destroyed most of Medieval Paris in the 19th century, but if you look carefully, you can still spot a few surviving Medieval buildings here and there.

2. The famous philosopher Descartes stayed in that building in the 1640s.

3.

4. An old grocery store.

5. Back in the days, architects loved to put their names on Haussmannian buildings.

6. There has been a strong Armenian community in Paris since the genocide perpetrated by the Turks during WW1.

7.

8.

9.

10. Too bad my camera didn't really catch the vivid colors of that mosaic.

12. Not to be confused with the Buddha Bar!

13.

14. October cover of the Paris gay magazine Têtu, in a kiosk. I know the people who read my threads.

15.

16. The American writer Ernest Hemingway lived in this building in 1922-1923 during his Parisian period.

17.

18. Left-wing posters opposing the privatization of the French Post.

19. Stylized coat of arms of Paris.

20. Non-stylized coat of arms of Paris.

21. African massage in a crazy old African car (old Peugeot). Yes you can!

22. After a massage, let's head to the public pool.

23. The famous philosopher Diderot, chief editor of the Encyclopédie, lived in that building around 1750.

24.

25.

26.

27.

28.

29. That's how the Parisian buildings looked like before Haussmann destroyed most of Medieval Paris.

More to come later tonight. I haven't shown you the most interesting part of my little promenade through the livelier part of the Latin Quarter yet. Stay tuned!
