Make has secured outline planning permission for a mixed-use development at Wembley City, north London, including up to 1,300 new homes.

Located opposite Wembley Arena, the project for developer Quintain will see the creation of a public square located behind Hopkins Architects’ new civic centre for Brent Council, as well as shops, affordable workspace and leisure and community facilities.

Quintain commercial development director Ben Giddens said: “From the outset, we said that we wanted to transform this part of Brent to provide Wembley Stadium with a setting to reflect its iconic status.”

Work on the project is based on the council’s masterplan for the area, and also includes the revamp of Olympic Way, the pedestrian route leading to Wembley Stadium.

Developer Quintain Estates has won outline planning for the £500m Wembley City North West phase.

Brent Council has granted consent for the next phase of development located opposite Wembley Arena and bordering the new Brent civic centre.

Wembley City North West neighbourhood will deliver 1,300 new homes, shops and affordable workspace as well as leisure facilities and open spaces.

The development’s focal point will be a one-acre publicly accessible square, located behind the civic centre.

Currently under construction, the civic centre is set to open in June 2013.

Quintain’s commercial development director, Ben Giddens said: ”Our vision for Wembley City is to create a place where people want to live, shop, work and spend leisure time. This vision is now a step closer to reality.

“By delivering modern homes and workspaces and bringing brand names back to Brent, people will be drawn to Wembley City – not just on a match day but every day of the week.

Quintain has already completed the development of 520 new homes at Wembley City, the refurbishment of Wembley Arena and the delivery of Arena Square.

Work continues on the new 361 bedroom Hilton Hotel and the 660 bedroom student accommodation, which will open in summer and autumn 2012 respectively.

It plans to start construction of the new cinema and the London designer outlet centre later this year.

London Designer Outlet has 350,000 sq ft (30,516 sq m) of retail and leisure floorspace, with 85 retail units,15 restaurants and bars, and a nine-screen Cineworld cinema complex seating 1,800 people over three levels.
Construction of London Designer Outlet will start in Autumn 2011, and open the autumn of 2013.

I know this is poor forum etiquette, but does anyone have any update shots of construction progress around Wembley Stadium at the moment?

I hope they hurry up with this "regeneration" and stop digging up the entire length of the high street every 2 weeks...absolute murder trying to get back from work.

Quintain has secured another three retail brands at the London Designer Outlet at Wembley.

Marks & Spencer, Superdry and Guess have all signed up to occupy units at London's first bespoke designer outlet alongside Nike and Gap, which exchanged in November 2011. Marks & Spencer will occupy 21,108 sq ft at LDO, Superdry has signed for 3,676 sq ft and Guess has completed a deal for 3,636 sq ft.

Quintain has already secured a strong line-up of food and beverage brands including Pizza Express, Prezzo, Frankie & Benny’s, Handmade Burger Co and Jimmy Spice’s. Fifty per cent (by year one base rent) is exchanged or in solicitors hands more than twelve months ahead of its opening in Autumn 2013.

Phil Cottingham, head of retail at Quintain, said: “LDO has been designed as a leisure and lifestyle destination that will serve the local catchment as well as ‘day-trippers’ and tourists visiting London, which will be reflected in the tenant mix. The initial phase of the leasing programme focused on establishing a strong food and beverage offer at LDO, followed by securing the cornerstone retail brands. We are delighted to have secured Marks & Spencer, one of the UK’s leading retailers, alongside Nike and Gap, as well as established fashion brands Superdry and Guess.”
