i know curved bridge has very complex structural performance. I know this particular one is designed by Richard Robertson (the structural engineer for bank of china, WTC, SWFC...). The Cheung Kong one won some prestigious structural award too.

First it for crossing the street easier I think and if I am correct it goes to the park (Chater Garden? or is it Central's Statue Square..)

resp. it might be a connection to the walkway that goes to the
Murray Road Multi-storey Carpark Building (wich hosts a prison too btw)

u can see the old walkway on following pic, the new walkway is just where the bus is.

it blocks BOC from the harbour lei. when i was taking the ferry last year i dismayed to see it in construction.
