Estás en lo correcto, los eucaliptos son llamados gigantes popularmente, quizás alguien llos confunda pues existen alrededor de 700 especies. Quizás ven un tipo de eucalipto y crean que es el gigante y vean otro tipo de eucalipto y se confundan TODOS son eucaliptos y TODOS fueron apodados gigantes a su llegada a México durante el último tercio del siglo XIX.

Tengo 20 años sembrando eucaliptos y gigantes y son diferentes en cuanto al tipo pero no se confunden cuando los conoces. Tienes razón en cuanto a que todos provienen de una misma famila y comunmente se les llama así, por cierto de Australia como dije, pero de que el gigante no huele su hoja como la del eucalipto, y es menos alargada es un hecho y no echa conitos en la flor; en una propiedad tengo cientos de ellos y se diferencian unos de otros. Todos los del periférico son gigantes, no huelen si rompes sus hojas y normalmente en los tiempos modernos son los que se producen por el gobierno, pues el gigante requiere menos agua. Al que llamamos comunmente eucalipto es meno alto y es inconfundible, pues su olor es intenso.
También existe el eucalipto dolar, cuya hoja es redonda y se utiliza para ornato y también huele intensamente.

Quedaría más alta, ya que tendrá 125 metros de altura... así que sería un tanto más alta.
