Thanks SE9 - this has the potential to be a good addition to the area. Fletcher Priest have just completed Watermark Place, which is slowly winning some doubters around thanks to it's high-quality ground floor detailing and materials.
One of the inspirations for the Bevis Marks facade is the nearby Holland House built in 1914-16 - with its strong vertical emphasis;

Can't say I like-Take off the rendered trees and the plastic roof and its just a bit of bulky box that will drown out the gherkin in some respects. Waste of a prime spot IMO.

Preferred this Aukett Fitzroy Robinson design for the site which related better to the Gherkin (not the best quality but taken from a magazine)

Couldn't agree more LL, it has been bewitched with a few clever disguises like alternating cladding, street-level landscaping, and a roof garden, all of which is to cover up...shock horror...another lumpy glass box that could be in ANY city in the world, has no quality or identifiable architectural style, other then modern shitty glass'n'steel box.

Maybe they need to looka bit harder next time then, we're comparing a beautifully crafted, intricately constructed facade in an elegant looking early 20th century building, so many of which were the norm for the time, not a massive development, clothed in glazed terracotta tiles....to today's equivilant: the good ol' trusted glass'n'steel box facade...oh but look at the different colours and the way the cladding is in a random pattern....no, just no! Move on, next sh*tty glass box please, step right up!

...god I really shouldn't look in on these threads, it doesn't do my heart any good.

Hmmm, I do like the building, and I do love a good sky garden, but considering the building's location and consequential potential, I think we could have done with a taller version of the building - say 180m/200m, so as to create bigger impact while also complimenting the surrounding talls.

This is a funny odd corner of the City. This design is par for the course, its massing respects the early and very urbane 20thC building to the north west side of the Gherkin, and at least tries to do something at roof level. Also, a higher building on this site may obscure views of the Gherkin.

However, the south elevation, particularly the attached wing extending to the side of the small modern office building over the ramp is, unfortunately, a bit of a dogs breakfast. This is a prominent part of the site. Its probably too late now to develop a better articulation of this part of the massing and elevations, but its not worse than much of the low rise architecture found in the City. It is interesting to see the comparison with the elevations of the adjacent Holland House, a quantum difference in quality (and no doubt reflecting a difference in budget and aspirations of the client).

Aon 'considering move to new office space in Central London
Free Office Search
September 2010
Quote:
Insurer Aon may be considering a move to new office space in London, it has been reported.

There is speculation that Aon may be considering a move to new office space in Central London.

The insurer is thought to be one of the parties interested in taking up residence at a site in the capital which has been bought up by German real estate bank Eurohypo, reports the Financial Times.

According to the newspaper, new office space is set to be created at the 6 Bevis Marks address in EC3 after the firm took over control of the building from Spanish developer Monteverde.

Aon is apparently considering relocating to the property, although the Walkie-Talkie tower and the Cheesegrater building are also believed to be in the thoughts of the company.

The FT stated: "The partners [of Eurohypo] hope to start on the site as soon as possible in order to meet the expected rise in demand for new office space over the next few years."

Another firm which has revealed plans for moving to new office space in London recently is estate agent Foxtons.

Chief executive Michael Brown said that the company wants to focus on areas of the capital is has not previously covered.

Surely this building would be too small as is planned?

I wouldn't read to much into it. Free Office Search is one of those sites that just leaches news from elsewhere and rehashes it.

The FT article only has one sentence about Aon and all that it says is that this building along with 20FC & 122LH are potentially on their shortlist. Hardly surprising as its one of only a very few new schemes due to start soon.

Building being gutted as we speak, demolition notices up everywhere and the beginning of a load of scaffolding started at the side

Loads more scaffolding up today, and I also noticed the top of a crane now poking up through the middle of the building
