Not bad for a country who has undergone civil strife. Is Kenya the most developed of the Rift Valley countries?

Ruiru Interchange

This interchange is between the meeting of the Eastern bypass and Thika Road (which is the A2 highway that's UC that connects Nairobi to Thika town and goes all the way up to the Ethiopian border)

Major Bypasses Currently U/C

Eastern Bypass
Quote:
The 39-km bypass starts on the Ruiru-Kiambu road. It crosses the Northern bypass and the Ruiru railway line into Thika road. After crossing Thika Road, it crosses Kamiti, Gathara-ini and Nairobi rivers into Ruai. The corridor then crosses Kangundo Road and proceeds to Mombasa Road via Embakasi Garrison and the North Airport Road.

Northern Bypass
Quote:
The Northern bypass is one of Kenya governments major infrastructure projects aimed at making the country a regional business hub.

The 31-km bypass starts from Ruaka trading centre along Limuru Road, overpasses Banana Road through Runda and Thome estates. It then proceeds to Kahawa West and eventually to Ruiru, through Kamae, where it joins the Eastern bypass.

The Northern bypass together with the Eastern Bypass will cost Sh8.5 billion. Kenya is financing 15 per cent of the project (Sh1.2 billion) while the China is financing the remaining 85 per cent (Sh7.3 billion).

Once complete, the Northern bypass will be wide enough to accommodate two heavy commercial vehicles going opposite directions.

Southern Bypass

Quote:
China to Build Nairobi Southern-Bypass

Talks between Kenya and China over the construction of the Nairobi Southern by-pass are almost complete, Roads minister Franklin Bett has said.

According to the minister, negotiations for the loan agreement are at the final stages and construction work on the road will kick off soon.

We have concluded the negotiations and we will soon be meeting to sign the bilateral agreement to construct the road, said Bett.

The Southern by-pass, expected to cost about Sh17.5 billion, will link heavy traffic flow on the Mombasa Road near the Ole Sereni Hotel running along the Nairobi National Park fence across Langata Road into Kikuyu town to join the Nairobi-Nakuru highway at Rironi near Limuru. The 28.6km road is expected to cost Sh17.5 billion.
